Great place. It renewed my interest in Mexican food after visiting two other mexican food places on the east side that left me feeling like I'd just wasted my money and a bunch of calories. Los Comales seemed clean, very vibrant decor, wait staff seemed genuinely happy, the food was quite good, reasonably priced and really fast. We had the Chck Mole enchiladas and the Carne de Puerco en chili casabell (pork tips in red sauce) and they were both really tasty. I usually skip the rice on these plates, but it was suprisingly flavorful. Also, they were freakishly fast. We got our food in under 5 minutes. Seriously. Not joking. Under 5 minutes. Okay, so it's worth checking out.

I went back to Los Comales last year for my brother's birthday after not having been there in years and was really surprised because the quality of the food has really improved from a while back. I had some of the best, most tender, juicy and tasty fajitas that I've ever had. Their homemade tortillas are to die for and their aguas dulces were delicious and so refreshing. The staff was awesome and treated us like kings and queens. I was very appreciative because on that day that we went, my older little boy wasn't feeling well and my little baby was a newborn at that time and neither one of them would let me so much as get a bite in, but it was my brother's birthday and it was a special time so we joined my family anyway. Well, they weren't particularly busy this night, but the waitress was so caring and attentive that she carried my newborn baby and kept my older one entertained so that I could eat a nice dinner. Now, I'm sure any mother out there knows how nice it is to get to eat a nice meal like that. The best part was that this is probably one of the cheapest meals that we have ever eaten as a family. I think our total was like $35 and it was like 6 of us, so awesome considering we had fajitas, steaks and some of the more expensive stuff on there. I highly recommend Los Comales to anyone wanting an authentic mexican meal at a great price.

Comales is the restaurant that I took every single client to when they visited Austin, and no one ever walked away disappointed. With lunch specials that run around five bucks, and homemade thick corn tortillas (always specify corn, not flour--they are such a treat!) you will walk away full of delicious authentic Mexican food and not break the bank. Try the Chicken Monterrey, served up with chorizo, grilled onions, tomatos and peppers.
