I wish that I lived closer to the Zilker Park area so that I could visit more often. The Zilker Park Botanical Garden is so beautiful that my my husband and I almost got married in the Rose Garden there. If it hadn't been for the hot August summers and those pesky bumble bees! I was so impressed with the care of the grounds and garden. The stafff are so nice and it is obvious they take great pride in the appearance of the entire area. The center also lends their buildings to classes. I took a class there about Butterflies that was very enjoyable several years ago. It is definitely a must see if you are visiting the Austin area.

Zilker Botanical Garden is one of the best things to do for free in Austin, and it's a fantastic date spot. Take your sweetie to the little tea house in the Japanese Garden area to look out and see the city. Stroll through the bamboo forest, which although graffitied, is still lovely. The waterfall is beautiful, and a great spot for a photo op. Be sure to come by when the roses are in bloom, as it's a wonderful sight. This is a instant stress reliever for me, and it's usually very peaceful here.

Right across the street from zilker park there is a gorgeous botanicial gardens. When you come here during the weekend you will see lots of brides getting their pictures taken. My friends and I had a nice picnic out there. Definately a great place to spend a beautiful afternoon in austin, or come here right after you have gone swimming in the springs across the street.

Zilker Botanical Garden is a beautiful, calming place to spend a weekend afternoon. They have all sorts of different themed gardens and beautiful paths for you to walk through. If you are tired of walking, there are plenty of places to sit and watch others enjoy the beauty surrounding them. It's free, though sometimes they charge $3 to park in the lot. And parking is very limited in the main lot. I highly recommend parking under the Mopac Bridge and entering at the back entrance. Much less hassle that way.
