My first experience with the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema was one that would have a lasting effect on me and was something that I will never forget.
I had been hired by Scion to promote the Scion xPress Fest being held at the Drafthouse. I had never been to nor even heard of the Drafthouse but I was very pleased with what I found.
The staff was incredibly nice and very easy to work with, they went out of their way to accommodate us and take care of us. The theater itself was amazing, a good size screen 40', great projection and the setup can't be beat. Unless a giant sits in front of you you won't have to worry about your view being blocked. There are slim tables in front of you and they serve some great beers and food while you are watching your films.
The food is good and not average in anyway, prices are pretty decent, but it is smarter to get a beer than a $3.50 Soda.
We only had one hiccup when the server dropped the credit card and couldn't find it. We found it after a quick search and the server refused to let us pay and even gave us a bunch of free tickets to future shows.
At the end of the night I was thrilled to find Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez in the lobby, after a short talk I joined them for a middle of the night screening of Carrie back in the theater. My one night at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema was something I won't soon forget and it certainly won't be my last.

This is my favorite theater in Austin. It shows foreign and artsy films that the mainstream theaters do not show. It is easy to get to and park and there are great restaurants within walking distance. The only problem I have with this theater is that the lobby can get noisy and the staff sometimes forgets to close the doors to the theater when the movie starts, but anyone with two legs and gumption can get up and close the door themselves. This theater and its staff are smaller and more intimate than other larger mega-plex type theaters. The staff even knows my name and my order at the concession stand. Brenda is always at the ticket gate with a cheerful greeting to, "Enjoy the show!" Thanks Brenda, I always do!
Pros: Best Movies Shown Here! Smaller more intimate theater w/ friendly attentive staff.
Cons: The lobby can sometimes be noisy and disruptive to the movies that are showing.

Come to Dobie to watch all the independent films. They are truly a unique theater. Every viewing room inside dobie is slightly different in design. If you show up before the movie starts check out the designs on the wall. Walking distance from campus. I saw super size me there, and enjoyed it greatly (not just because of the movie but because of the atmosphere as well)

I went to One World Theatre to see Hugh Masekela. There is not a bad seat in the house and the entertainment is sure to please. The energy inside is electrifying. If it wasn't so far from my house I would go every weekend!

The Barton Creek Cinema is nice because it is located right next to Barton Creek Mall. I like it better than the theaters located in the malls, and it is in a nice area. The theater is always clean, never crowded and very easy to get to. The prices are waaaayyy overinflated, but that is the case in any theater everywhere. Go enjoy a movie there, and enjoy Abuelo's for after movie eats!

There is nothing more appealing in the summer in Texas than escaping the heat and watching a movie in airconditioning. Add to that a glass of wine with your popcorn and a cinematic classic and you have the Paramount Theater's movie experience. Oh , did i mention that they show most movies in double feature format? Or that the other movie goers are an absolutely pleasure? (you will not believe how funny or gutwrenching a movie can be until you experience the mass-emotion of this group!)
Don't let summer pass without seeing at least 2 shows at the Paramount. Get the schedule early so you don't miss an old favorite!

We (as a family) enjoy going to Museums around Texas and the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum is one we can visit over and over again. My kids are all into history and they always learn something new when we go. The building is huge with 3 floors of exhibits, that change fairly often. There's also an IMAX theater, Cafe and Museum gift shop! If you live in Texas, learning about Texas is the greatest gift you'll ever get.

Tinseltown Theaters opened about 12 years ago. They were state of the art and great when they opened, but they are in need of a renovation. They tend to not get all of the blockbuster movies, and the theaters themselves are in need of some work. The staff there is generally cheerful and friendly, and the ticket prices are comparable to other theaters in the area.
