When I joined this gym I did so, because it was the only gym by my house and the trainer Omar Overturf actually helped me by letting pay in payments. I'm a single mom and I was extremely over weight, not to mention embarrassed, insecure, and intimidated. Omar made me feel comfortable, and showed me pictures of members and the goals they have accomplished at Oxygen Fitness. He told me I'd have to work very hard, and the results WILL come. I couldn't afford a trainer, but the guys pointed me in the right direction. Thay had me read books and magazines for help while I rode the bike. Well in 8 months I lost 90 pounds. # months later and I can fit into a size 2 on my 43rd b-day! Some people tell me that is unhealthy ( I thought so too), but Omar said 226lbs for a female was unhealthy. I was obese. I feel like a totally different person, and I could have never done this somewhere else, or by myself.(I feel like I'm going to cry). No gym would have let me pay in payments, help me out, or make me feel comfortable. All the guys and especially Omar Overturf have made me a new and better person, and there is no better feeling than when I look in the mirror. He told me I would feel bad when I missed a workout or a meal, and when I did I was miserable....miserable because I didn't get to the gym. What a FEELING!!! So when I saw this site I had to comment. Why would anyone demean the only gym that is REALLY helping those who can't out? There are NO OTHER gyms that are EAST of Ih-35! And to complain about petty thing ..WHY? It's a gym it worked for a poor single overweight mom, and it would work for you if you went. Please don't mock the only gym East Austin has, embrace it. I make my monthly dues and never have had 1 problem w/ any of the guys at Oxygen. Omar Overturf and the guys have been nothing but helpful and a god send to the residents over here. I know alot of students come and go over here, but the old timers like me need this place. The equipment is great and they got new cardio machines, so they must be doing right!

Finally a real gym, that's by my house. This gym has the same equipment as the big Corp. gyms, but their equipment is ALWAYS broke, out of order, or too occupied by people who aren't even working out! I've been working out in gyms in Austin for over 20 years, and this gym has the perfect combination of quality equipment, great weight machines and the best free weight (it still has steel weights- all the other gyms have rubber weights!) and I don't have a rubber body. Everything works at the gym , they play great music and their other location is open 24 hours, not to mention they are way cheaper than the others and the only gym that is close to my home. ALL the employees have been there a while and they know exactly who you are... I was just a name and number at the other gyms. The gyms know their stuff- not young and inexpierenced-, and have always helped me out when I asked. This gym is not hardcore, but if you're a crybaby it's probably not for you. But if you want a good workout at the right price this is it!! Everyonre I know workout here.

This is an awesome gym for the price. It's not a meat-market gym, the staff actually knows you by name and it's the only gym on the East side of the Highway. I am a student and live off of Riverside. I can walk to the gym and it's soooo much cheaper than other gyms. If you want a pool and towels, etc. believe me, you will pay for it. If you want an affordable place to just go work out, this is it!!

They make cancellation virtually impossible through numvero. Overturf surreptitiously ticked the "12-month minimum box" on my contract. When I called to discuss the matter, he hung up on me, then called back a 15 min later. He said I have a 12-month obligation and snidely added "Good luck" before hanging up on me again.

We got our membership last June and we found out in beginning February that my husband got a job out of state and that we would be moving in April. We called ASF, b/c that is who handles the gyms contract, and we were told to fill out a form stating why we were wanting to terminate our contract and mail it by certified mail to ASF. We did that and then they tell us that is not a good enough reason and even though we will be living out of state for the remainder of our contract, we will still have to make monthly payments. The contract we have contradicts what they were saying so after arguing with them and getting no where we decided we would just stop our auto draft and let them send us bills in the mail. So we called ASF canceled our auto draft, received confirmation by email and everything. Then in March we get a bill in the mail from ASF and we put it aside. Well, a couple weeks later we notice that 2 auto drafts came out of our bank account from Oxygen Fitness, not from ASF. One was the payment and another was a late fee. So we called Oxygen Fitness and asked to speak with someone in there billing dept, they told us that they do not have a billing dept and that we need to call ASF. We told the person on the phone about the auto drafts that were posted to our account and that it was drafted by them not ASF, so they said that we needed to speak with Omar. So we left messages for him and have never heard from him. Then we got another paper bill from ASF and a coupon book in the mail to finish our payments and I saw on there bill that we can look at our account online, I then pulled up our account and the money taken from us wasn't even posted with them so basically Oxygen Fitness took it upon themselves to draft the money from our account without our permission. Oh, and the coupon book we recv'd from ASF specifically says to mail ALL payments to them and not to the facility. My advice do not get involved with them, they will screw you over.

I joined this gym because it was about two blocks from where I lived. I bought a friend a membership for Christmas 2005. It isn't a very nice gym but it is relatively inexpensive. If loud noises bother you, stay away. Their one regular classroom has walls unconnected to the ceiling so you can hear instructors yelling in a microphone when a class is in there and the music from the instructor's stereo and the piped in radio music play at the same time. That classroom is also the only open mat area for stretching and abs work so if you want to do either, you had better do your workout before 5pm. The other “classroom”/low-ceiling-closet is for a spinning class that, in my experience, got cancelled quite regularly. In December 2006 I tried to cancel the memberships and because of that two month long debacle this gym is getting a zero rating from me. I called the gym in December asking about cancellation and was told I needed to speak to a manager named Omar, but couldn't be told when he might be in. I and my friend left six messages for Omar that were never returned and went into the gym a total of four times but no Omar and no answers about how to cancel my membership. Eventually I was given an 800 number for ASF, the company that manages Oxygen’s contracts. From there I was given another three weeks of run around from the employees of ASF and Oxygen who either wouldn’t return my calls, couldn’t answer my questions or didn’t know their own cancellation procedure. As it is, my cancellation although submitted today won’t go into effect for another 30-40days (they have up to ten days to acknowledge receipt of the cancellation notice I submitted via email). That means it will have taken me a total of three months to get a cancellation, until then I’m still paying for the two memberships.
