The Austin Chronicle is an excellent way to find out what is going on in town at any given point. They have a wonderful "best of " poll/award once per year which has tons and tons of categories. This is a great way to find new restaurants as well as find out what live music is playing this weekend.

If you're a local, you probably already do pick one up. If you're a visitor, and you need to know what's going on, you have to find one. They are available on Thursday afternoons at many local bookstores, sandwich shops, restaurants, etc. Everything is covered here - food, books, movies, music and it even includes a calendar of events for kids. Some of the writers have been at the Chronicle a bit too long in my opinion, and I find some of the content a little too hipper-than-thou on occasion, but for local events, you need to turn here.

The club listings are great as well as the movie reviews. The editorials are not biased and restricted , such as the ones in the Austin American-Statesman.

No college student or single professional can live without this publication, which features the best of what is happening in town. This is where you find out all about Austin artists, musicians, and upcoming festivals. The restaurant and movie reviews are particularly helpful. Classifieds are there to help you find that roommate or washer and dryer you need. There are even some decent book reviews written to keep you on the edge of contemporary literature. Make sure you cut out their calendars of events so you don't miss out on the excitement!
