Ozone Bike Department is a cool place next to Thundercloud subs where we bought my girlfriend her first "expensive" bike. They have a great selection and their prices are about average for a bike store. Thankfully, the staff in the store do not work on commission so they have no real incentive to make you buy crap you don't need. We got a great deal on a great bike for my girlfriend. We spent under $500 for a bike, a helmet, and a great buying experience. Lastly, they carry some very vintage looking bikes that I see tons of people around Austin riding. Check them out for any of your biking needs.

This is the most economic tune up with the best features. Several local bike shops charge upwards of 70 dollars and don’t give your bike the same care and attention. 50 dollars covers lubing chain, all bearings, break cables, truing wheels, front and rear derailleur adjustments, break adjustments, bike and derailleur cleaning, and I’m pretty sure if any parts need to be replaced the labor is covered in the tune up unless it is a major repair. I score it high for customer satisfaction on price and labor.

We came to University Cyclery for our first look at buying a bike for the girlfriend; however, we were a little disappointed by the big prices and not so friendly of service. It took us a while to really find anyone to help us since it was a little busy for a bike store, so already we were a little agitated. Then we talked to a very friendly salesman and offered a few options as far as bikes go. Unfortunately, we couldn't really find a bike she was interested in so we took his name and went on our search elsewhere. I would recommend you try at least a few bike shops before making your purchase, and this should be one on your list for the downtown area.
