I've never been to the old location so can;t compare but loved the Gingerman. Great selection of beer, very comfortable setting and good waitstaff.
Was not crowded this past Sat and we had the back room to ourselves for most the early evening. Enjoyed trying several new (to me) beers and the ecclectic music on the juke box. Looking forward to trying out the outdoor patio when it dries up a bit (rain!). Will be back for sure!
Pros: New location, beers, just a great American pub

This is by far my favorite pub in town. No pretenses. Its refreshing to not have to deal with servers. With serves I always feel cheap when they walk around and I don't order anything new and have only had about 2 sips from my beer. The bartenders can be hit-or-miss on friendliness. On my 21st birthday, amazing and friendly staff super willing to tell their favorites and let me try them. On my friend's 21st birthday, the bartender was obviously annoyed when we asked for recommendations. The boy had never had never gone past Bud lite before though, so even I was a bit impatient. The beer is what makes this place. I'm happy with a Bass, but I love trying new things and at 4.50 a pint, mmmm. Imports aren't always the best buys here either. They have lots of hidden secrets behind their bar. I can't complain about anything, mostly because it doesn't falsely advertise anything. In fact, does it actively advertise anything or to anyone at all? And on a strange note: I love the huge Bavarian flag hanging at the back.
Pros: Refreshing unpretentious bar with great selection
Cons: The glasses don't come free with the drinks of their Monday "Keep the Glass" promotion

I have been to Gingerman quite a few times. It never gets old, the beer selction is the best in Austin and the Atmoshere is cool, very Austin,a good place to sample some beer and talk during the day. At night it's a great place to start off the night off... The crowd and staff love beer and you can easily talk about different beers for hours with anyone. Stop by and have a few.... Cheers!!!!

Gingerman is a great place to go for just having a beer, for happy hour, or hanging out and chatting with friends. The bar has a very nice 'feel' to it and it's refreshing that they have only one tiny TV in the entire place, so people can focus on talking, rather than watching TV like in a stupid sports bar. The beer selection is excellent and all beers always taste the way they are supposed to taste - not at some other larger bars (such as Sherlocks, Little Woodrow's etc.) where none of the beers they have on tap taste right.
There is one review here where a person complains about 'bad service'. You walk up to the bar and order your beer and the people behind the counter are friendly and knowledgeable, what else would you want? A waitress bringing your beer to your table? Give me a break!

A long time ago this used to be one of our favorite places in Austin, however, the service has steadily slipped over the years and the place has become more and more elitist. On our last visit, service was so bad that we decided we are never going there again. There are other places with MUCH better customer service that are more deserving of our money.
*UPDATED to address suelpen: To spell it out for you, YES, bad service = rude and/or unfriendly staff who act like they are doing YOU a favor to serve you a drink. I shouldn't be made to feel like I am imposing on waitstaff/bartenders when I am out trying to enjoy my leisure time and spending my hard-earned dollars! I shouldn't leave a place feeling WORSE than when I walked in! People, open your eyes and pay attention to how bartenders and waitstaff treat you in this town and don't spend money at establishments that don't value their customers!!!!
Cons: poor service

If you are into the best selection of beer in town then the Gingerman is the place for you. Whether you have a taste for a complex belgian or a refreshing german wheat or even a cutting edge American microbrew, you will not be disappointed. Sit inside or out. Bring a bunch of friends or hang alone. Play darts. Lounge on their couches. One thing is certain - great beer and no worries. Maybe thats 2 things but you get the point. Peace out.
Pros: All good. Good product and good surroundings.
Cons: None.

This is always the first place we take our out of town guests. They have a phenomenal selection of beers and will let you taste them before you decide. My favourite spot in Austin is the shady beer garden at the Gingerman. Emapanadas are good, but the beer companion plate (cheese & salami etc) is always disappointing. But I can live with that!

Gingerman never fails in the selection department, and the laid-back crowd and general atmosphere can hardly be beat. Although if you're into drinking a less obscure selection of beers, your money will certainly go farther any day of the week at any number of places around town that have a more than adequate selection. Also watch those credit card transactions... I have had more than one on my statement with a tip much larger than I actually wrote in.
Pros: Great selection, Nice atmosphere
Cons: Pricey

Located just off the 6th St row of madness, the Ginger Man is the only independent mega-beer-bar I have found in Texas, and ironically, it fits in perfectly with its surroundings. Everything inside is woodgrain: the bar, chairs, walls, floors, and ceiling. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They are obviously interested in getting you what you want, and will let you sample beers to your heart's content, until you find the perfect pint
