We first went to Tech One on a friend's recommendation when we got tired of the poor service provided at the dealership. It was the best decision ever. They have provided us with great, friendly service at minimal cost for years now and we would be lost without them. They are always friendly and they treat you like family. Once you try them out once, you will never go anywhere else!
Pros: Available when needed and provide quick service

I have been going to Lugnuts for five years now, and I no longer go anywhere else. This is a locally-owned business and it shows. The staff is professional and courteous, and their rates are the most reasonable I have seen. If I had to refer my wife or sister, this is where I would send them.
Pros: Honest, Courteous, Knowledgeable, Affordable Rates
Cons: None

I replaced the brakes on my car myself and got something wrong so I brought it up to Jason fix my messup. They looked it over and ended up only needing to flush the brake fluid. I was in and out within 30 minutes. They only did the work necessary without being pushy at all. A pleasure to work with and I will use them again.
Pros: Fixed only what needed repaired.

Like your reliable best friend... only with expertise in areas more useful than belching and beer pong!
I was going to be lending my car to my girlfriend to tote her family to Houston for the week (my SUV trumped her hatchback for space), but it had been having problems starting reliably. Problems escalated late in the evening before I was supposed to hand it over, and at 1am I was faced with the entirely UNromantic options of reneging on the trade or potentially stranding her in Houston (or worse, halfway in between) without reliable transportation. Frantic calls to advertised 24-hour part shops netted me no response. Stumbled across this listing and figured "couldn't hurt". Within several minutes of an answering machine message I left, I was talking specifics, discussing options, and getting a quote (pending on-site review to see if our estimation of the problem was right).
He arrived at 8:30am, tested and removed the part, and drove me to the parts shop to grab a replacement. By 9:45 he was finished, even providing a few helpful tweaks along the way. Despite the repair taking longer than his quoted 1 hour (mostly due to traffic heading to the parts shop during rush hour), he reaffirmed his quoted price, saying "that was mostly just driving around". I had to ASK him to accept more.
Not the easiest to find nor the most well-marketted operation, but if word of mouth still travels in these disconnected times I hope this business thrives. I'd strongly recommend to anyone facing car uncertainty or problem. They're fast, friendly, amazingly flexible and convenient, and they give verbose, detailed, and understandable explanation the entire way through the process. It's been years since I felt this level of customer loyalty for ANY type of business. Even if they can't actually help your car, I am certain you'll have a much better understanding of the situation and a clearer plan on how to address it after you call. Local, inventive, unique. This is an Austin sort of service!
Pros: Fast turnaround, open and visible process, and still thrifty
Cons: No real online presence

I traveled to Austin recently to participate in a week-long technical conference. I drove in from Houston, about 200 miles or so, on Sunday afternoon to attend a meeting that evening. My Jeep was overheating for much of the way, boiling coolant out through the overflow tank, and spraying it all over the inside of the engine compartment. I made it into Austin OK, and called my brother in law in Round Rock, north of Austin about 30 miles, and asked if he could pick-up a thermostat, a thermostat housing gasket, and a radiator cap. I left the meeting about 10:30 PM, and went to get the Jeep and go to Round Rock. I didn't make it onto the freeway before something failed in the engine emissions control system, causing the engine check light to come on and remain illuminated. My Jeep was running, but was now missing and surging in an alarming manner. I drove about 4 miles north and gave it up as a bad choice. I manged to limp back to the downtown hotel I was staying at, and parked in the hotel garage. I searched the internet for Jeep repair shops in Austin, and Jeep Masters came up first. Several other shops were listed as well, but Jeep Masters had a couple of strong points in their favor for me. Of all the other shops listed, they had the highest number of positive customer reviews, and they were located only 2 1/2 miles south of the hotel location. I called them Monday AM and spoke to Cecil, who suggested they could tow my Jeep in if it wasn't operable, but in any event to bring it on and they would take a look at it that day. I was able to get some help, and dropped the Jeep off around 10:00 AM. I called Jeep Masters at 2:00 PM, and they had already completed a very comprehensive diagnosis to determine the engine condition, specifically looking for a blown head gasket or cracked head. They described several tests I was aware of, and a couple I had not heard of before. Hearing the descriptions, I was convinced they had done what they were telling me. They did determine the overheating was caused by the radiator cap not holding pressure, as I had suspected. They found a bad throttle position sensor that was setting the check engine light; the hot coolant had gotten into the wiring and shorted out the sensor. They also found a couple of other, non-related items that I optioned to go ahead and take care of, since they had access at the time (bad ignition cables and rotor, and throttle body contamination buildup). So, they replaced the radiator cap, the thermostat and thermostat housing gasket, flushed the coolant system and replaced the coolant, changed the oil, replaced the ignition wiring, and cleaned the throttle body. After I picked up the Jeep and drove back to the hotel, it ran better than it did back home in Houston before the trip, and no sign of overheating. But here's the really amazing part: I asked them what the charge would be, expecting a really high number. After all, I was from out of town, there for only a week, and essentially stranded without my vehicle, and these fellows did rather a lot of work. The estimate was only $650! Moreover, when I paid the totaled bill, the amount only came to $604, not the $650 original estimate, AND the Jeep was ready that afternoon before 6:00 PM! They only had it in the shop from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM; with an hour for lunch, that means they worked the diagnosis, affected repair, cleaned up, and performed a test drive, all in 7 hours! I am back home in Houston now, and my Jeep ran very well all the way back. I would highly recommend this shop to any Jeep owner who finds they have engine issues. They are fast, honest, accurate in their work, and very fair in their pricing. For all this, I'd rate these guys 6 stars if I could, but most definitely 5 stars!
Pros: Service is fast, accurate, honest, & reasonably priced
Cons: They aren't closer to Houston

We're nursing along a couple of older Camrys, and Northwest maintenance lets us have dependable transportation at far less cost than car payments. The one time we had a problem with a repair, they cheerfully took it back and fixed it further, even putting in more parts, while refusing further payment from us.
Pros: Experienced and knowledgeable

I have been taking my car to Flamingo since 1990 - I have had a VW Quantum, a Honda Civic, and a Toyota Highlander. I have always trusted Joe and his team's diagnostic work and pricing - Joe is always helpful in prioritizing maintenance and repairs and making recommendations. Their prices are fair - they give great referrals for other services (like tires, bodywork, etc.) and do GREAT work!!! Plus they support and promote important community issues and causes. I recommend Flamingo to ALL my friends who have German or Japanese cars!!!!
Pros: Great expertise and customer service

I went in because my foot caught on a stereo wire that was sinfully dangling down behind my clutch in my just purchased new used car and ripped it out of wherever it came from ending my audio entertainment. I just wanted the wire put back in. Victor took a look and saved me from some potentially catastrophic experiences from a stereo that was completely hooked incorrectly into the electrical system. He showed me how it was wired and explained why my stereo was not turning off when I turned off the car, and that had I continued driving it that way, I would have ended up with either a dead battery or a car fire. He completely rewired my stereo and put all the wires away where an active foot near the clutch should never encounter them. I was very satisfied with the price and the service.
Pros: Good explanations

I have taken all my cars here when needed for the last 10 years. They are always honest with me, and WONT start working on it until they have explained all my options, prices etc.
I have been to both locations, but I am closer to the North Store so I am more familiar with that.
Great service, convenient, and NOT expensive at all. another major plus in this economy!!!
Pros: they are honest
Cons: none, well coffee would be nice! :)
