There are certainly plenty of beadshops in Austin, but this one is absolutely my favorite. The beads are spread out in baskets, bookshelves, and tables throughout several rooms of funky little house. It may not be particularly kid friendly if your kids are of the age when they have grabby hands, because a lot of the merchandise is easy to get to and spill over. I love the variety of vintage beads here, and there are plenty of places in the store that you can actually dig through boxes searching for a little treasure (beads, vintage charms, etc). The girls who own it (sisters I think) are laid back yet helpful and friendly if you have questions.

I use to love shopping at this store because they always had such high quality and upscale boutique clothing that I liked to buy for my daughter and could not find in some of the other resale of consignment shops around here. It did close and has reopened under new management and I have heard that it is better than ever. I do not live close by, but next time I am near the area I will be sure to stop by and keep my fingers crossed that they still carry the upscale boutique clothing that I so enjoy putting on my daughter and now son.

This was the first time for me to wear braids. Chantal did a beautiful job! Very professional, courteous, friendly, and with a Christian atmosphere. I've gotten so many compliments; but my husband loved it most!

I wanted to make some keepsake ceramic items for my parents and in-laws that incorporated my newborn son. I took my baby to Le Bisque and the owner showed me the cutest idea that incorporated my baby's footprint and handprint. The owner gladly helped me ink up my son and create the most adorable trivets, ornaments ,and coasters. A couple of weeks later, we picked them up and were very impressed with the quality. The grandparents said that it was the best gift they received. The studio is very nice and clean. Le Bisque has many items to chose from and they charge a flat rate.

I love Memory Depot. It has the best selection of stamping and scrapping items in Central Texas. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable and always willing to stop and help you look for a product. They also offer a wide selection of classes from stamping, scrapbooking and beading. I have taken a few classes - stamping and book making - and they were about $12-$15 each and well worth the money. The teachers were very thorough and hands on in demonstrating techniques. I live in far North Austin and gladly drive to this South Austin store.

This is a fun place to browse, although it can be pricey. Nomadic Notions tends to carry hippy-type women's clothes, jewelry, and accessories. You'll find beads, stuff made out of hemp, etc. Their sales can be really good and they often put clearance items on the sidewalk with the prices posted, so you don't have to go in if it doesn't look very promising.

My understanding is that everything in this boutique is made in Austin. It's a fun store, mainly carrying trendy apparel and accessories. I have seriously lusted after a rather expensive necklace made by a local artist I later met there. The only issue I have with the store, is that it's hard for me to spend money on the sort of DIY things there - because I really could make them myself. However, it's worth checking it out, especially if you aren't a crafty person.
