Ansley Park Playhouse is an amazing place to go if you want to see local productions. My friends and I went there this past week to see a local production call "Peachtree Battle". What an amazing show, we couldn't stop laughing the entire time we were there. The theater only seats about 100 people and tickets sell out months in advance. The theater is small, so if you want to get the best seats arrive about 30 minutes before they open the doors and wait in line to get in. It's deffinetly worth getting there early and having a drink at the local restaurants nearby. During intermision they servce beer an wine in the lobby and you can also go to the restaurant on premises to get an alcoholic beverage out into a plastic cup and take it inside with you. Highly recomment the place for groups of any size.

This is the place to go to on a first date. Fun, exciting and easy going. Improv theater is something that you can get involved in and really enjoy yourself. My boyfiend and I went there on our first date and I was amazed on how much fun we had. Drinks are served on premises and there is ample parking the garage next to the theater. Tickets sell out fast so don't wait too long to make your reservations. There are also a lot of great places nearby to have dinner before hand.

Through the years this company has continued to strive to be an icon in the Atlanta Performing Arts community. We have season passes and the kids look forward to their shows and so do we. We have also gone to a few adult shows and they are fun and raunchy. They always manage to have a very varied array of shows to appeal to all the differing tastes.

This theater seems to always have a show running. I went a few months ago for a murder mystery and loved it. The theater was hard to find, but it was worth the drive. Dad’s Garage has a nice charm to it and seems to sell out fast since it doesn’t have a large seating capacity. The staff is very friendly and it was a nice theater experience for us.

If you love live theater, then the Alliance Theater is the place for you. At the Alliance you'll get high quality performances for a decent price. The thing I like about the Alliance is that it is not a huge theater, so no matter where you are sitting you can see and hear everything just fine. It is a place that you can take your date and really score some points. It's right next door to the High Museum of Art, so you could really take advantage of the location and check out them both. It's a great opportunity to get dressed up and see a great theater production in a wonderful venue.

One of the older clubs in Atlanta, Earthlink Live (formerly Center Stage) is still a great place to catch a show. Mostly playing to smaller or up and coming artists, this venue offers plenty. The seating is stadium style in a half circle around the stage. The floor is general admission and the whole club probably holds 2,500 people. Several close areas to park nearby as well.

The Roxy Theater is my favorite small theater. It caters to any musician who wants to make a personal connection with the audience, something lost on big outdoor venues. The acoustics are great and you get two different view of the band. You can choose floor seats or live the life of luxury and watch from the balcony. The Roxy is a must for an Atlanta resident.

Atlanta is one of the least green major cities in the United States. It does not have a Central Park like New York does. While I had the great Lullwater Park near Emory when I was in school, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens is the urban dwellers escape from the concrete to a soft, quiet, secluded place to find peace and calm. It has a wide array of beautiful plants and flowers from all over the world.

The Center for Puppetry Arts is a very interesting place both for children and for adults alike. They have children's shows, and they also have some shows geared towards adults. I have taken my first grade students on a few field trips there, and they have always been a lot of fun. They puppeteers even show you how they put on the show when they are done. They also hold workshops for children. The prices tend to be a bit high, so be prepared!

More
The Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts is connected with Emory University, but performances there are open to the community. The Center's performance schedule coincides with the school year, so there aren't any shows in the summer. But during the school year they have dance, music and theater here. The costs for student performances are usually free, but the costs for national artists is not cheap. If you live in the area and enjoy the arts, it's worth getting on their email list.
