I got a steak and my wife got the lobster. I really liked the steak, but the steak sauce was an additional charge which i felt was nickle and diming me (the steak sauce was good though). My wife liked the lobster, and it was a good portion, but she didnt rave about it. We had onion rings for an appetizer which were very mediocre. The mash potatoes were good, and the cream corn was average. The inside itself is a very cool atmosphere, but it is EXTREMELY dark. I would recommend figureing out what to order beforehand, and it is so dark it was difficult to read the menu. The price was on par with typical high end steak houses, and the food was god, just nothing special lie you could get for a similar price at Bones, Mortons, etc. etc. Pros: Great steak Cons: VERY dark, overall only ok for the $

I was excited to receive a $100 gift certificate to Rathbun Steak. My husband and I went early on a Monday evening, ready for a wonderful experience. We were SORELY dissapointed, especially since I had heard such good reviews. Not only was it rediculously DARK, it was very loud, so much so that my husband and I had trouble hearing each other, sittling right next to one another, and the restaurant was only about 1/4 occupancy. I work in the design rhelm, and I find it outrageous that someone thinks it is cool to design interiors that do not suit the intended purpose. If the servers need flashlights for the patrons to see the menu, IT IS TOO DARK! GET REALl!!!!! Form follows function. We ordered a potato soup for a starter - SALTY Steaks -- Rib eye and NY strip - SALTY (Mine had large pieces of salt on the steak) Creamed spinach - so salty we could'nt eat it Bread - SALTY It is a shame when the only seasoning option used in this professional chef's kitchen, seems to be salt and LOTS of it. The server, at my request, did take the spinach off of the bill, but it was still $82 dollars. Although I don't mind spending that kind of money and more, on a GOOD meal, this is not a restaurant that I will ever give a second chance. We rushed through eating, as the ambiance was poor, it was loud, and the highly salted food left much to be desired. By the way, I rushed home to drink several HUGE glasses of water! We found a table in the bar, ordered a bottle of champagne and split the steak for 2. The steak was incredibly tender and juicy and we enjoyed a few dipping sauces-- the blue cheese butter sauce was decadent and tasty. The side dishes-- scalloped sweet potatoes and zuchinni picatta were delicious but next time I will look for a healthier veggie option (if there is one to be found on the menu!) Due to the batter, the zuchinni tasted surprisingly like french toast, which actually wasn't a bad thing. We finished the meal with a toffee brownie sundae. Simple, homey and good. The waiter/bartender was very attentive throughout the meal and we enjoyed the liveliness of the bar. Kevin Rathbun seemed approachable as he spent some time during our visit greeting guests. Also although friends had advised that the restaurant is expensive, I did not feel the price for two dinners, dessert and a bottle of champagne was exorbitant. Pros: Killer steak, excellent service

We went to Rathbun's Steak for a Saturday night, having made our 8:15 reservation the previous Tuesday. Upon arriving, the hostess told us we were one of many groups with reservations waiting for a table. Upon encouraging our party to crowd the bar, which was standing-room-only and full of reserved parties waiting for their tables, we waited till 9:15. The food was great, just like any top-quality American steakhouse, but with the variety of phenomenal restaurants in Atlanta, it doesn't make sense that this place should be making anyone wait who had reservation well in advance. I doubt Kevin Rathbun would have approved of the overcrowded bar that awaited seating, which just goes to show that the management needs to reevaluate their policies. The manager personally apologized, but had to censor the language of his hostesses, who made comments like "well, plenty of parties are waiting for their reservations" and "I don't know how long the wait for your table will be." I think we could all agree that the host/hostess should be honest, straightforward, and, most of all, positive with the clientele. To end on a positive note, the food was, again, incredible. Our first trip to Kevin Rathbun's Steaks and we travel there for steaks. I wanted to try the dry-aged steak and compare that to Bones, Chops, Prime, Killer Creek, Stoney River, MCKENDrick's, and other steakhouses I have visited. The service was great and I ordered the Cowboy Ribeye dry-aged and my lady ordered the Steak Diane. All in all we will return, but the overall meal was just okay. We did not get to the great status. The Steak Diane's sauce and the sides were a little salty. In both cases, the steak itself was good and well received, but we can recall several meals getting up from the table saying this was a great meal. Not last night, just saying it was alright-good. We have tried all kinds of restaurants in the Atlanta area, as well as, other major citys. For steak in Atlanta, I still have my favorite and that has not changed based on my 12/11/08 meal. Hoping for the best my next time around at Kevin Rathbun Steak, Kevin was there, but not on the grill - but near the kitchen... Pros: Service and Steak Cons: Sides and Spice

This steakhouse was the best restaurant that I have had dinner at in the past year. I travel all of the time and can tell you that the steaks and atmosphere are top level and the service waqs the best too. Try the steak for two, the creamed corn, the wonderful ahi tuna poke and then save room for the desserts. I will go back ten times over! Pros: atmosphere, steak Cons: a little dark but it is cool!

I helped my girl Kelly P celebrate her birthday here last night and all I can say is "Wow!" I must admit, I was fairly intimidated at the thought of visiting such a Restaurant (note the capital R - I feel it's necessary). I mean, this is serious business here; they are not messing around. You can feel how genuine everything is - the service, the food, the atmosphere - it's all just so, SO. That said, once I joined my party, it took me a good 10 minutes (and one large glass of wine) to truly exhale and begin to enjoy the experience fully. It didn't hurt that I was dining with 6 of the most delightful ladies I know. And can I just say, girls really do talk dirty when they're alone together - I felt like Stanford Blatch on a night on the town with Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. Such stories - I was blushing. And the people watching (once your eyes adjust to the darkness) is top-notch. To me, this is the best course of any dining experience. Here's the meal I had and/or sneaked a taste of off someone else's plate whilst they were in the bathroom touching up their make-up (yet one more advantage to being a man). I'm not going to go in to details because they were all delicious, sublime, perfect - I would order them all again. In fact, this may be the meal I order before I'm finally put to death in the electric chair for having worn two Swatches on one wrist in 1986: Starters Lobster Fritters w/Lemon Zest Honey Mustard Asian Style Meatballs w/Mushroom Soy Jus Entree 10 oz. Ribeye (rare, natch) w/House Steak Sauce Sides Jalapeno Creamed Corn w/Scallions (a house specialty) Elbow Mac & Cheese Tart w/Truffle Bread Crumbs Scalloped Sweet Potatoes w/Gruyere Twice Baked Potatoes Our server, Matt Coggin, was outstanding - he knew ever nuance of the menu and wine list and directed us toward items he knew we'd like and could afford (hey, this place ain't cheap!) without making us feel uncomfortable. Kudos to him - job well done. Ask for him - you won't be disappointed. By the end of the evening, the room had become warm, inviting and comfortable; it had won me over completely. The only - and I stress ONLY - reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because Javier Bardem was not our waiter. Pros: Service, food, decor Cons: $$$$
