Lefont Plaza Theatre is the one that shows the legendary Rocky Horror Picture Show. If you've never seen it here, you're in for an experience. I had never seen it before, but I had heard of it since it's a cult-classic. Very weird B-grade movie, but the crazy thing is, at this theater, there are actors who act out the movie in front as it is going on. They get the crowd really involved in it, so it's quite an experience. If you're easily offended, I wouldn't recommend going, but if you're open minded, it can be interesting to say the least.

The Center for Puppetry Arts is a very interesting place both for children and for adults alike. They have children's shows, and they also have some shows geared towards adults. I have taken my first grade students on a few field trips there, and they have always been a lot of fun. They puppeteers even show you how they put on the show when they are done. They also hold workshops for children. The prices tend to be a bit high, so be prepared!

The High Museum of Art is the strange white building on the left side of Peachtree as you're heading to Buckhead. If it looks familiar, it's because it was the home to Hannibal Lector in the movie, Manhunter. The museum is not too large currently, but does a great job bringing in interesting exhibits. It's last featuring Romare Bearden was the best I'd seen at any museum. The museum will expand in the fall of 2005 and has also announced a major partnership with the Louvre in Paris to bring a lot of that museum's collection to Atlanta. The only bad thing I can say about it is that some of the exhibits can get crowded.

Good Arts Option Around Emory

More
The Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts is connected with Emory University, but performances there are open to the community. The Center's performance schedule coincides with the school year, so there aren't any shows in the summer. But during the school year they have dance, music and theater here. The costs for student performances are usually free, but the costs for national artists is not cheap. If you live in the area and enjoy the arts, it's worth getting on their email list.

Perhaps unbeknownest to residents of Atlanta, the Atlanta Ballet offers dance lessons catering to all levels. Classes are offered at their West Peachtree location, as well as on Roswell Rd. I've taken the ballet and the hip-hop classes. For a beginner like me, the classes did not seem overwhelming. I really enjoyed going to ballet, especially with the pianist playing live pieces. The hip-hop is great for a workout, and by the end of the class, you have a routine to show off.
Classes are about $13 each, with a discount when you buy a 10 class card.

This place is WILD. It's hard to keep in mind that you are still in Atlanta rather than some huge waterpark in orlando or something. from the minute that we walked in, we knew that we were up for some real fun. If you can add this park into your family vacation with Six Flags over Georgia then you have a mix for some happy camper. Unfortunately, you can't get into both parks from the price of one ticket and they both cost roughly about the same, so you might have to pick. Parking is typical and costs a nominal feel, so get ready to pay.
This place is very well worth the fee though.

My husband and I took our daughter to Zoo Atlanta and were not impressed.
The animals were all so far away. I know this is for safety reasons but we could barely see some of them. The zoo is also small. The panda exhibit seemed to be the same size as the rest of the zoo. We had heard so much about the children's zoo but on the day we were at the zoo the children's exhibit was closed!. There is a playground there and I actually think we all enjoyed that more than anything else there.

Good if you have the cash! This is one of the 2 major ticket resalers in the area. You can check out their website and browse their inventory or superiot seats for sports and music venues. Expect to pay big for the seats though. I've used them a couple times and it cost me about 4 or 5 times face value for the good seats.

More
Most of the local independent record stores in Atlanta that I have visited employ rather friendly staff.
You won't find the typical NYC snobbery here in The A especially at Criminal Records.
Selection - Great
Staff recommendations - Great
Stock - Great
Friendliness - Awesome!
Shopping ease - Not-so-great
One must view most CDs through a giant glass counter that separates the store employees from the customers. It's challenging to browse for something in a relaxed way especially if you don't know what you're looking for.
Other than that - 4 stars!
