I love the vortex! Me and my boyfriend go there all the time. He loves all their burgers and I love their original veggie burger. I'm a vegetarian, so this is my favorite place to go, when I'm craving a veggieburger. Another secret: the tater tots are way better than the french fries. Also, if your a vegetarian, do not order the potato salad. There is bacon mixed in it. Overall, The Vortex is a great place to chill for lunch, or have some drinks at night.
Pros: Awesome Enviorment
Cons: Can get really crowded

The Vortex is a high volume bar and burger joint. The food is great - there are even DELICIOUS vegetarian options and burger alternatives - turkey burger, veggie burger, tuna melt - you name it. If it is on the menu it is great. The beer selection is huge - there is something for any beer drinker, and stuff for those who aren't. If "outstanding service" to you means a server who is dedicated to your table and your table only, then don't eat here - or anywhere really, unless you are at some 5 Star Gourmet eatery at some fancy hotel somewhere. Here at the Vortex, busy waitstaff handle a huge volume of regular people who realize and understand that the waitstaff is (gasp!) human too! They are on your side. They want you to be happy with the food and service because that is how they make their money!!!!! But be realistic! They are serving burgers (the finest in atlanta - true) and beer. Not Porterhouse steaks and Dom Perignon. I've never had "bad" service at any of the Vortex locations. I've waitied patiently for good food and I've waited patiently for drink refills and shots and second and third beers - BECAUSE THE WAITSTAFF and the BARTENDERS ARE BUSY!!!!!! I tip them extra well for putting up with all of the people who complain about service because they are running around trying to get everyone food and drinks - not just you. (Well not necessarily YOU so I hope if YOU aren't complaining that you don't take offense!) I come back again and again because I get GREAT BURGERS, and GREAT DRINKS at VERY DECENT prices! And the music rocks. So, come expecting good food and drinks, and you will leave happy. But if your expectations include great food great prices, great drinks, in 15 minutes with a server who will kiss your butt the whole time, you probably shouldn't come here and probably should limit your dining experiences to more upscale establishments. Save the Vortex for burger joint lovers like me!
Pros: food is great, atmosphere is fun
Cons: can be loud and crowded and slow - but i know that! I enjoy myself whenever I'm there.

Cons: why waste your money when there are better places with nicer servers?

This ain't your daddy's Cheers bar. The Vortex is attitude on steriods. As you walk in the door ...of a skull! You hear the driving beats of Jimi, Janice, and Nirvana oh yes and Marvin. Don't get it twisted, the atmosphere is both eclectic and electric. In the words of Nirvana, " Come as you are", you will be greeted with a smile and a great black and tan. The menu contains the best burgers and fries. Ranging from a blue cheese burger to a avacado and perschutto cheese burger, to your plain ole burger...burger. Good times , good fun good music. Drinking is for the HARDCORE, rookies need not apply. Located in Little 5 points , it is Marta accesible with a cab station across the street for you drunks and an amalgamation of quaint shops in the area. They dont close it starts at eleven and closes at I dont know. Heck I want to go now and it's 8am. Yeah , I need help but I love this place
Pros: Atmosphere
Cons: None

"Rude Manager" on 2/19/08.
Pros: Great Hamburgers! Rude Employees, because its supposed to be that way!
Cons: If your offended easily, you won't like the Rude Employees!

The burgers at Vortex are very good, but the customer service is horrendous. I ate there the other night with my brother, boyfriend, and mother. We ordered a second pitcher of beer as we were finishing our meal. My brother still had a half glass of beer in front of him when a guy walked up to the table. He identified himself as the manager, said we had been using the table for two hours (in reality, it was probably an hour and 15 minutes), and that they had a lot people waiting to eat. In more words or less, he told us to leave. As our mouths were hanging open in shock, we had no response. A fantastic burger is not worth such rudeness. I've been a long time fan of Vortex, but we won't be going back!
Pros: good burgers
Cons: manager is beyond rude

The Vortex is easily my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. A lot of the reviews here mention how great their burgers are and its for a reason; the burgers here are fantastic and you have an insane variety from which to choose. Some people may complain about service, but I can honestly say it would take some absolutely terrible service (I mean, actual insults to my face or something of that ilk) for me to give up The Vortex.
Another great thing about this place is that no kids are allowed! So, no worries about your meal being ruined because some rude mom and dad can't be bothered to take their crying kid outside.
The prices are also really great for what you get and the decor is fanciful and fun (although, the Little Five Points location has better decorations than the Peachtree location in my opinion)
But to address some of the negatives in other reviews; some of the servers aren't the cheeriest bunch, but that being said I've never had any server be blatantly rude to me and I've always had quick and reliable service (and I eat here a lot and have had been served by many different members of the staff). The Vortex has dubbed itself a "No Idiot Zone." If you ask questions that can be answered by reading the menu the servers will most likely be annoyed (it's written on the menu). So, if you want a server who's Miss Mary Sunshine and answers inane questions that you could have answered yourself just by reading, then steer clear. If you want that kind of nonsense save yourself the trouble of being offended and go to T.G.I.Fridays.
Also, The Vortex in Little Five Points is on the small side and probably wouldn't be great for big groups. However, The Vortex does have another location on Peachtree Street that is more spacious, so go there if you have a group.
If you're in the mood for a fantastic burger and drink and aren't easily offended then The Vortex is for you.
Pros: Fantastic and inexpensive food, no kids allowed and huge variety
Cons: Not the best place for groups or people who are easily offended.

I have been to the Vortex many times & the food is always great They serve you quick & efficiently but certainly are not known for their customer service. We did take a group there last night & they aren't very accommodating to large groups. They encouraged us to split up or else we would have to wait for a really long time. I had called in advance & the first time they were very nice & said "no problem" just let us know when you have a firm # of guests. The second time I called they basically said that they wouldn't accommodate us & that we would have to wait just like everyone else. I understand that they do not take reservations, but they did make it seem that would at least try to accommodate us on the first call.
The food is good but do not go here if you have more than 4 or 5 people.
Pros: Great food
Cons: Not great for groups
