Bear Valley is a great ski resort situated just a few hours from the Bay Area. It isn't too expensive there but still has great slopes and lifts....

Bear Valley is a great ski resort situated just a few hours from the Bay Area. It isn't too expensive there but still has great slopes and lifts. There are 67 trails there and the park is 25% begineer, 40% intermediate, and 35% advanced. Tickets cost $45/$40 for adults and $38/$32 for kids (depending on whether you go on the weekend or on a weekday). The only bad thing is that it can get crowded and it takes like 20 minutes to get a hot chocolate.

Bear Valley is located in San Bernardino Valley, CA and it is higher up the mountain and receives more snow then the resorts at the bottom. The slopes and runs are a little more difficult than the resorts at the bottom. Because it is located in Southern California, we don't always get the best snow and really any snow. Therefore, most of the snow is manmade and during the bad seasons, there are tons of dirt spots on the mountain. But they do make sure that there is snow on the runs. I would recommend this resort for the beginner/ immediate skiiers and snowboarders.
