After a BUNCH of recommendations to dine here during my busines trip, I thought it couldn't possibly lived up to my expectations. I was wrong. Great service even though they were packed on a Monday night. Great view of the water from the bar. The food was amazing. I had grilled salmon and it was cooked perfectly. I'm really glad I made it here before I had to go home. Pricey but worth it. They had happy hour specials and a fixed price meal special that made it pretty affordable. I would definitely return.
Cons: no parking nearby. Had to pay $5 to park in a nearby lot.

Alaska has become a favorite of mine. I've been inland, out to sea, spent time in local hangouts as well as tourist traps throughout the state. I still have a long way to go before I can say I've seen the state, but I can with some confidence tell you that I know about AK.
S&S is a great place for dinner downtown. Great view, fantastic wine list as well as beer, excellent service and good food. The halibut here is amazing any way they prepare it. The staff here is professional, knowledgeable and fast (by AK standards). The view is great and the vibe is comfortable. The one con I might mention is that the reception/hostess staff does not work well under pressure. They lack experience relative to the wait and bar staff. Don't let this initial experience sour you on the rest of your meal. The food is amazing, the view is great and you can't go wrong here.
One last thing. S&S is always working hard to play a good and kind role in the community. They almost always run specials that include portions of the proceeds going towards local charities and other community needs. During my last visit there was a local fisherman who was injured on the job. In order to help defray medical costs as well as other bills, S&S donated money to the family. I like knowing that my money goes towards helping someone in need- especially locally. I also like knowing that the restaurant and its staff care enough to do this.
Pros: Food, Service, Location
Cons: Inexperienced Hostess'

My husband and I arrived in Anchorage on our honeymoon in 2004 with little knowledge of the local restaurants, and were directed to Simon & Seafort's by the Dimond Center Hotel concierge as the best restaurant in Anchorage.
We both had the parmesan-crusted halibut in a butter sauce, with brandy ice for dessert. How richly Alaskan, with a beautiful finish! Even the bread was divine. The view of the bay was lovely, and dress was not at all formal (this seems to be true statewide). We wore slacks and sweaters and fit in perfectly for lunch. My only gripe is the downtown parking!

This was a wonderful treat for me, less than a block from my hotel (The Hotel Captain Cook) I found Simon & Seafort's where I enjoyed excellent food, outstanding service and breathtaking views.
My favorites:The Tipsy Clams and Simon & Seafort's Classic Seafood Boil. The staff here goes all out to to ensure that your dining experience is a memorable one.
If you are serious about dining this is a must stop when in Anchorage. And don't forget to join The Premier Dining Club, select recipes, dining ideas and they remember your birthday.

I have eaten at S&S many times. I will skip all the typical "great" remarks and get to some things they do better than others. First, while artichoke crab dip is somewhat of a cliché, they do it better than anyone else I have had. The spinach salad is simply prepared, yet one of the best. While they have a wide ranging menu, I prefer the seafood. Order whatever is fresh and in season. Don't be afraid of the specials. They have some of the best dishes prepared with the freshest seafood.
They have an adequate wine list and a great selection of beers.
Service has always been prompt and with a flare.
If you are there when it is daylight, the views of the inlet can be very nice.

Simon & Seafort's is an excellent "saloon & grill" that offers delicious meals that exceed your expectations.
We went there to celebrate a birthday, and it was a wonderful experience. I had the stuffed macadamia halibut and my husband had the prime rib. Both were exceptionally prepared, and the presentation of the food was professional. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was quiet, and everything was perfect.
The only "downside" to this restaurant is the price. It is the type of place we can only enjoy once in awhile, although we will enjoy it full when we do go.
I highly recommend Simon & Seafort's Saloon & Grill for any special occasion.

If you are looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate your special occasion, and price is not an issue, you should consider Simon & Seafort's. They have been in business in Anchorage since 1978. The atmosphere allows from dressy casual to semi-formal. The staff are very professional and friendly, and they do a great job of making you feel welcome. The food is spectacular. I have never had anything there that I did not fully enjoy. Also, their desserts are generous when compared to your average upscale restaurant. Our latest meal price here was under $50 for lunch.
