As a "first-timer" to Villa Nova I was unaware of the fantastic experience that was about to unfold before me. From the smiling welcome of the hostess, the fireplace, fountains, beautiful artwork, live classical guitar, to both the engaging, and perceptive service we received (also from Lynn, who I recommend requesting, her knowledgeable, friendly service is without par)
THE FOOD!!! How could I have been unaware of this place? I'd heard of it but dismissed it because of its location. (Which I now applaud, no "parking" issues equate to a pleasant beginning to a fabulous evening.) The Halibut Monaco was the best fish Ive eaten throughout a lifetime of world wide gastronimical samplings. Stuffed with dungeness crab, and the wine lemon sauce, delightful! The calamari was the most tender, perfectly prepared cuts available w/out a doubt. No "calamari rings" here rest assured.
And desserts, be forewarned, SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT or GET ONE "TO GO" We did both! The recitation of the dessert menu is a show unto itself and all the servers must have an impeccable memory. Chef Giorgio (a 5 star Chef, trained in France, no less) also emerged from the kitchen and introduced himself and inquired as to our experience. His caring is very evident in all aspects of his business. From the smiles of the staff, to the peals of laughter heard round the rooms, I have to say this was one of the most memorable, enjoyable meals Ive ever eaten and I will become a member of the "family", as they've made me feel like one already. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant, both romantic enough for a proposal (there was one there that evening) to casual enough to relax and unwind in, I can't say enough about the artistry that is embodied at Villa Nova.
Also noticed that the "Who's Who" of Alaska, are in regular and abundant attendance. Excellent location for relaxed networking and developing relationships would be my guess.
Pros: The Food, the Service, the laughter, ambience, everything was endearing and memorable
Cons: None.

The catfish is to die for...but the fried okra and home baked mac & cheese just make it all the better! My mom, a Texan by birth, said that they have the best mustard greens she has ever had. She said she never would have expected that in Anchorage, Alaska!

I ordered the 30 piece hot wings and boy are they HOT! My friends are all crazy about them. Many places say they have "hot" wings, but these are great! I love the create your own philly cheesesteak. They are made with real steak not that thinly sliced stuff and are awesome! My husband loves the meatball sandwich. Huge portions, great prices, what more could you ask for? We have been looking for great takeout that is not too expensive and Milano's is just right. I can't wait to try other items on their menu but have to tell you that every time I order, it is always the wings.

This is hands-down the best place in Anchorage to eat for breakfast (fly in is almost equal, and they deliver breakfast at all hours).
Service is always great and with a smile. Prices are super and did I mention the food is some of the best in town. I've only had a burger there once, and it was average, but the breakfast is super. My wife and I have made a tradition of going there every Sunday for their breakfast.
Flo's represents how a business is supposed to treat it's customers.
Pros: Reliably great food
Cons: It's in Muldoon

i cant wait to get back to momma o's! my friends and i have known about this local secret for years. there was a time when i ate here 1-2 times per week, i really miss those days! the staff is very polite and remmembers your name. her clam chowder made fresh daily mmmmmmmm, im thinking of her homemade tatersauce right now. its not a fancy prancy place so, the food isnt goiing to set you back. my grilled cajun halibut filets with fries or rice, and a one trip salad bar is under $15.00. the place has a healthnut/weightlifter following and makes substitutions for fries with steamed rice. i could go on. lets say im 36 and my folks wanted to know where to take me for my birthday, you guessed it! thanks mom and dad!
Pros: best tasting halibut plate in anchorage!
Cons: there are busy times as, its not a big place.

When we were in Alaska last year, we happened to be traveling on my husband's birthday. We usually eat sushi on the birthdays, so we went looking for a sushi joint in downtown Anchorage. We found Yamaya's. It was the cutest little place I have ever had sushi. It was smallish, and packed to the gills, with locals. So we knew we were in the right place. We dined under a forest of hanging plants, that decorated the restaurant. It was refreshing.
All of the sushi was perfectly fresh, and very tasty. We ate till we were growing our own gills. I highly suggest Anchorage in the summer, and this sushi place.
