If you head up to Ames and dine at Hickory Park, you won't be going home hungry. If you get a dinner, you will get generous sized portions on a large plate. If you have a sweet tooth, you can order right off your placemat your favorite ice cream treat. The malts are EXCELLENT. It is a bit of drive from Des Moines, but if you are passing through, be sure to stop and eat at Hickory Park, and if you live in Ames, you already know how good it is!

Yes, that's right. This locally-owned pizza joint was made popular by serving honey with their crust. After you've put away one or two pieces, save your crust because this whole-wheat delicacy tastes great dripping with honey. You'll probably leave several pieces on your plate, however, because each slice nearly weighs 2 lbs. What a helping of Heaven!

Everything at Battles Bar B Q is good. They have all you could want in barbecued chicken, pork, and beef. The lemonade is fantastic as well. It??s in a great location in a campus town, easily accessible for lunch or dinner. A great place on game days. Dine in or take-out available.

The thick crust pizza is the best. You must save the crust for last and eat it dipped in honey. The wait here is usually long because it's in a college town, but well worth it. They pile on the cheese so be ready for some great grease. You can choose from a variety of crusts (wheat, white, honey..) and a variety of toppings (all of the standard toppings). I believe a medium pizza is around $10-12.

I love shopping at Cyclone Liquors. I am a big wine fan and they have one of the biggest selections of wine in Iowa. The employees are very friendly and always helpful. The store is well organized and clean. Cyclone also has a huge selection of liquor and beer.

I have had a few experiences with Choice Medical in the past. Every time I walk in the door, I am greeted by a smile and a warm welcoming hello. I didnt even have to explain to Choice what it was I was looking for, they knew right off the top of their heads. I would DEFINITELY recommened Choice Medical to anyone looking for great service when obtaining any medical equipment. By the way, the address on here is old. They are now in a NEW beautiful facility down the road from where they used to be.

The Ark in campustown is a great little pet store. Despite its demure size in comparison to gigantic chain stores, The Ark has a wonderful selection of pet food, treats and accessories. Sometimes it is difficult to find a certain rare cat food or fish bowl heater, but not at the Ark. The staff are rather knowledgeable and usually very helpful -the only exception being when they are busy with too many customers -which is too often. Even better than the selection of pet products is the selection of pets themselves. They always have a wide selection of mammals, birds, reptiles, fresh-water fish and their marine collection is quite comprehensive. The only bad thing about this is I have noticed on a couple of occasions that certain rare pets were not cared for properly -such as the case of a veiled chameleon, who died of dehydration because it was not provided with a dripping water source.
