The smoked jumbo 100% all beef (or fat free veggie dogs) are the best I've ever had. Whats even better is that they are always fresh and served on a warm fresh crispy french roll. Top it with anything you could possibly want, or just a plain Spike's dog on a bun you wont be dissapointed.
Pros: price, quality, fun atmosphere
Cons: parking

This place makes hot dogs, veggie dogs, and puts chicken in a hot dog bun. They have tons of crazy combinations, from the grotesque to your everyday summer-day-dog. The place is made to look kind of like a 50s diner, and the food comes up pretty fast, but not as fast as Mickey D's...which i think is a good thing. The craziest thing here is their hot dog eating contest. All along the walls are pictures of contestants. Any day, and time, you can enter. You have one hour to east as many hot dogs, buns included, as you can. No bathroom breaks, not going outside. there is a whole poster of all of the rules. The winner gets their hot dogs for free, and if you eat something like at 5 or 6 hot dogs, i think you get a t-shirt. But beware, these ain't your mama's average franks, they're plump. And the Big Dog's top score is about 14 hot dogs. You're getting yourself into trouble here...but if you keep it down, you'll be a celebrity.

Certainly the best dogs I've ever had in Boston. They have many different types of dogs, with combinations of toppings you would never think would be good on a dog, but really are amazing! If you don't like any of their combinations, you can always get a Sinatra dog, which is have it your way and put whatever you want on there. I did partake in the 6 dog challenge. If you are to do this, I would suggest regular beef dogs and not veggie. Although the veggie dogs are good, after 4 or so without any toppings, they can become sickening. Basically, this place is fun, and if you haven't been, go try it!

This is a great place to go get a hot dog. They have several different styles of hot dog such as the PIzza Dog where they put tomato sauce and cheese on your hot dog and that is one of my personal favorites. Thy have like 25 different varieties of Hot Dog and they are all really delicious. You can also get a chicken sandwich if you want, but the reason to go here is definitely for the hot dogs.

This small Rhode Island chain makes its presence known in the Boston area. The place is definitely known for the unique dogs and toppings, so get your chicken and pizza elsewhere. The hot dogs are baked for a bit before served. Curly fries are excellent also. If you can grab a seat, the place is decent for people watching. The customers are so loyal they signed a petition to get city permission to keep the place open late. I definitely recommend hitting this place up after some beer and pool just a few buildings over. There's a parking lot just behind the liquor store one block over, but if that's full, you'll have to get creative with street parking.
Pros: Excellent Hot Dogs, Cheap Eats
Cons: Lack of parking

I *love* this place, and I'm a vegetarian. Go figure. Fortunately for me, you can get any of their hotdog creations with a veggie dog, so you won't feel left out with your group of meat-eating friends. The curly fries are great as well, especially with cheese. Don't expect gourmet, just a good price and great food.
PROS: Cool hotdog concoctions, and veggie dogs, too!
CONS: None

At the corner of Brighton Ave. and Linden St., Spike's Junkyard Dogs is the only place to go for quality hot dogs. Open 'til 1am, it's great for the college students looking for a late night bite. The restaurant is decorated with signs ranging from street signs to warning signs. You actually feel like a dog is ready to pounce from behind the fence that marks the entrance to the line for the counter. The food here is great and unique, but seating is limited.

This place has the best hot dogs I have ever had for sure. They have very creative ones too, such as the pizza dog, the Reuben, the Russian, etc. They also fill you up pretty well. The ingrediants are always fresh and the people are always really nice. One of my favorite things about Spike's, though, is their infamous hot dog challenge wherein if you eat 6 dogs or more, you win a teeshirt and you get your picture on the wall. If you eat over 13 beef dogs or 9 veggie dogs you get a tshirt, the picture, and your dogs are free. You do, however, only have 1.5 hours to do it. Bon Appetite!

It's worth trying to find a parking spot in that section of Allston or better yet hopping the Green Line over to Packards Corner for this little slice of heaven! They put things on a hot dog that you would never have imagined before, creating masterpieces! I recommend the Spikes Junkyard Dog with their own homemade spicy mustard, tomato, and hot pepper rings. But most of all it's the fresh baked sub rolls the dogs are placed in that truly make this dog unique.
Great pizza and chicken too!
Pros: Toppings, The Buns, Value
Cons: Limited Table Space, Difficult Parking
