Just west of the city is the Petroglyph National Monument where there are remenents of those who lived in the area hundreds of years ago.
They have one of the best hiking areas you will find in town. It is a 2 mile trail that takes you through part of the park, the scenery is great and you get to see some petroglyphs.
Most of the petroglyphs are north of the visitors center about 2 miles. You can walk through several areas and see them and even climb up a hill to see them scattered around there.
Is is a nice safe place for older kids probably 5 and up. You can not use a stroller well but if they can walk it is great.

I've been bike riding since my older brother talked me into a 2500 mile ride thirty years ago. I've bought at least six bikes from Cycle Cave. Each time I did shop around. At most shops the sales personnel are hired help, with maybe a few years experience. At Cycle Cave the sales people are the owners, the same people that talk to the manufacturers and distributors and decide what brands to carry. They know the ins and outs/pros and cons of each model and help you find the best bike for your experience, planned biking adventures, and budget. I have found their prices very reasonable and at times less then all competition. Its a family run business and as other reviews state has that atmosphere. This might not be the place if you are looking for the cheapest possible two wheeler, then go to Walmart, but if you are looking for some quality, and want to get a little serious (or real serious), I don't think you can beat the attention and suggestions you'll get from the staff at Cycle Cave. Not only in picking out a bike, but they are equally knowledgeable with bike hardware accessories (speed/distance computers, triathlon bars, car racks), and clothing, shoes, etc. They are also a complete repair shop too.
Pros: Excellent all around bike shop with knowledgeable sale staff.
Cons: Although parking is limited, its appropriate for the size of the store.

Since the business was purchased by new owners in June things have changed dramatically. It has gone from a cluttered mess to a nice open space where you can actually shop. The staff is very helpful and the new fit process that the new owners have implemented is second to none in New Mexico. I've shopped at other Fleet Feet locations across the country and I can definitely recommend this one now!
Pros: Top quality gear with top quality service.
Cons: This is no longer a discount store full of old stuff on sale for a bargain - good & bad

WOW! I have to say that this is one of the best Zoo's that I have ever seen. Being the middle of Februry we expected to see very little but with the beautiful climate in Albuquerque all but he Parrots were out. The flock of Flamingos that greet you walked right up to us as we entered (I love Flamingos and have never seen them anywhere). The Polar Bears, Camels, Seals, Monkeys, Elephants, Giraffe, Zebras, Lions, Tigers...Amazing! Take the train to the Aquarium and Botanical Gardens. The kids Secret Garden is magical! And the Aquarium is great too, especially considering the size. A really fun day for two 50 year old kids from Ohio!
Pros: Range of animals, layout and ease of viewing, habitat
Cons: During the week in February, non of the snack bars were open

I have been visiting this museum since childhood and have not grown tired of it yet. As you enter the museum you are greeted by the dinosaurs, seeing just how tiny we are compared to these beasts from the past is awe inspiring. One of my favorite things to do in the museum is to walk through the volcano exhibit. The Natural History & Science Museum will be enjoyed by all young and old.

We have an annual membership that we use extensively. Our younger children have a ball everytime we go. It is best to go in the afternoon on weekdays as it can get very busy and you end up waiting for displays. For families with younger children, there is a special toddler area. There are indoor and outdoor activities. The Explora also has summer camps that my daugher really enjoyed.
