In response to above, I could not disagree more. Dr. Upplegger has been the best doctor for our newborn son. Our hospital nurse called his office for us late in the evening and the next morning he came over to look at the baby and perform his own circumcision--all before his regular office hours. The "look over" as was described above was also done which is routine. Either he or the staff pediatrician would look over the infant and then usually give the go ahead to discharge. May seem silly but is normal procedure and I would expect a charge, probably the same as when an adult goes to urgent care and the Dr listens to your lungs and says you have a cold. Then charges you for that comment. We had a follow up as well and found the staff to be kind and courteous. We too were moved to another room immediately and did not have to wait on some gross couch. The office is actually fairly nice--perhaps nineties decor but nice. It was cold but you cant please everyone. I would HIGHLY recommend the Dr as in our visit he sat with us allowing my husband and I to ask many questions about our new little guy. Unlike other Doctors, he was not rushing us but kept asking if we had any other questions or concerns and each time he had well thought answers and did not make us feel stupid for our questions. I am not sure why the above experience happened but we are sure glad our friends with 4 children and longtime patients of Dr Upplegger, recommended him to us.

Dr. Upplegger has taken fabulous care of our 6 year old daughter since birth. He is available, attentive, and always very professional. He is also no-nonsense in his diagnosis and will let you know in no uncertain terms which of your concerns are valid and which are just new-parent jitters. When our daughter was born, my wife and I were initially turned off by his matter of fact style of doing things, but we quickly realized that his years of experience gave him an insight and manner with kids that we could not possibly comprehend. I still remember him visiting us in the hospital, calming us down, and scooping up our daughter like a sack of potatoes to show us how to burp her. We thought he was going to break her back the way he was handling her, but darned if she did'nt burp 5 seconds later and give a huge, releived smile (we had been at it for an hour and were being far too gentle to get her to respond to our soft patting). Years later, I watched him distract my daughter and administer 6 shots before she even realized he had started. He is as old school as they come in his approach to medicine, but keeps current on all the latest research while having the bedside manner and responsiveness of a trusted old country doctor. His entire office is well run and very professional. Due to some complications at birth, we have had to make more use than the average consumer of his services, and have been impressed at every visit. He always knew when to refer our daughter on to a specialist, and when to send us home with a bottle of medicine for a quick-easy treatment. His thorough (but never excessive) approach to diagnosis will leave no stone unturned and will allow you to sleep easy regarding your childs health status.

when my child was born he came in to the hospital and introduced himself and just asked to look at the child, i obliged, she didn't leave the room he just gave her a once overand dint even let me know there was a charge.(which i was latter billed $140 for) Seriously why would i pay some Dr. to look at my kid when she is in a hospita??l!!! THEN when i took my THREE DAY OLD BABY to the office we were not put in a separate room (as is normal) away from the "sick" people as a newborn has ZERO immune system, but made to wait in the hot waiting, that had a couch that was disgusting, in room with people coughing all over for 45 mins. My wife was almost in tears. When i make a appt for Dr. Upplegger i expect to see him not some random person which is exactly what happened, and when i called to speak TO HIM to express my concern i got a call from staff, not him and he couldnt be reached. So other than him wanting my money he could care less and thats has been proven time and time again.COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE i changed that day.
Then in a follow up to express my displeasure, i was asked if my kid was o.k. and when i said she is fine i was told that this converstion is over, and hung up on!!!
DONT SEE THIS DR., NOT EVEN ONCE OR YOU WILL REGRET IT.

Dr Upplegger is a good doctor who has always done the right thing for our kids. However we usually wait about an hour or more to see him, which is no fun when you have a sick baby or toddler.

I had been taking my son to see Dr. Upplegger for over a year and I was extemely disappointed.I would make appts. and would have to wait 2 hours until I was seen! This wasnt too big of a deal when I wasnt working, but when I went back to work it became VERY irritating. My son had ear infections left and right and was never diagnosed properly. My son came very close to getting Pneumonia and that was the last straw for me.I now take both my son and daughter to Dr. Luis de la Torre, who is GREAT!I've never waited!

I only 3 stars instead of 2 because of the wonderful office staff. After coming highly recommended, I found Dr. Upplegger to be very disappointing. I have felt dismissed & unheard at every single appointment we have had with Dr. Upplegger. My 7-month old had a 103 degree fever for 4 days & he brushed me off during all 3 of the phone calls I made to him. I finally requested my daughter see Dr. Thomas (the other doctor in this practice) & she was diagnosed w/ a double ear infection. I have found a new dr.

Dr. Upplegger has been my son's doctor since he was a year old. The office staff is always courteous and Dr. Upplegger is very nice and understanding. The best thing about taking a child to this office is that they will see you within 24 hours if your child is sick. I have never had to take my son to the urgent care on weekdays because they always find a way to fit him in somehow. The only downside to this is that sometimes the wait can be very long, even for scheduled appointments. It's a small price to pay for not having to spend hours in an urgent care or emergency room.

Dr. Upplegger is a great physician and is in tune with the parents concerns during exams. Children feel comfortable with him and he loves kids a lot. He is the most knowledgeable doctor we have found in th Abq. area and diagnosed our son with reflux after he had been through 2.5 years of pain while other doctors had no idea what was wrong. The only downside is that he is a very popular doctor and there can be a very long wait even with well child visits which have appointments set up months in advance.
