My mother took me here every week as a child and I loved the pastrami sandwiches. Once I grew up I continued to frequent the deli and am so glad it hasn't changed a bit. Great prices and even better selection.

I live about 5 minutes from Zaki Kabob House but had ignored it for its first year, thinking it only served meat dishes and I'm a vegetarian. However in the past few months, this place has been packed every time I've driven by. Finally on Wednesday of this week my curiosity got the best of me and I stopped by after work. What a great decision that was! Yes it was packed but I got mine to go. I had the fava bean salad, which is not a salad at all but a warm dish of poached fava beans marinated in some savory herbs and spices, stewed tomatoes, and olive oil. I had never had anything like it before and I just gobbled it up. Last night some friends wanted something healthy, and I couldn't get the fava beans out of my mind so I took them there. All agreed that the pureed lentil soup was the best we had ever had, anywhere. One friend who was completely unfamiliar with middle eastern food didn't really like the fava beans but the rest of us did. I had the moujadara, which is poached green lentils and rice with sauteed red onions. Everyone at the table loved it. I don't know what spices they use there, but the flavors are just delicious. The meat eaters among us had the shredded chicken breast which is marinated in herbs and spices overnight, and the rotisserie chicken. They gave both the big thumbs up. We also thoroughly enjoyed our tabouleh and our baba ghannouj.
Service was a little slow to start, but picked up after awhile. This is a family run place so not everyone is experienced in waiting tables. Last night they had a middle eastern trio playing, which added to the festive atmosphere although admittedly was a little loud as this is a small restaurant.
Overall, a fabulous meal and experience. All of my friends said they would be back. And I will definitely support this small business owner in my neighborhood!
Pros: Fava Beans, Lentil Soup
Cons: Can get crowded and noisy

Their mixed berry pie is the best I've every had. Their breakfasts are also very tasty. In fact, you pretty much can't go wrong with getting any kind of pie at Walker's.

A cozy restuarant that's been around for a long time. Yet they stick to what works and do it well. If your in the mood for some good fried chicken or prime rib, go here. My favorite is getting the complete meal which comes with a salad, soup, the main course, and of course the pie. I think my parents taking me here when I was young got me hooked on their pecan pie. They have a number of cream and fruit pies which are all very good - basically, you can't go wrong. You will not be hungry when you leave, but make sure you go early, cause the open and close early.

Walker's has good dinners, which include soup, salad, popovers, main course with starch and veggies cooked al dente, and a choice of at least 15 pies. I recently discovered the scallops entree, and they are tender and delicious. Since I no longer eat beef, this was a delightful find. The pies are the absolute best I've tasted, with a light crust and wonderful fillings. Try the lemon chiffon for a real taste treat, although my husband can't say enough about the cherry pie.
Pros: attentive servers, delicious roast beef and scallops, quiet
Cons: Sometimes hard to park on Solano; try the side streets

There are so many Chinese food restaurants on Solano ave. but this one is one of the best. The food is delicious and the service is good. Their broccoli beef is spectacular along with their lemon chicken. The prices are good for the quality and the restaurant has a very good family atmosphere.

Bliss. Sushi-loving, caviar-snacking, seaweed-noshing bliss. Unlike local health food and typpie stores, even unlike many Chinatown grocery stores, Tokyo Fish Market's seaweed is both cheap and abundant. Their kombu is the cheapest I've found anywhere. they season the salmon roe and tobiko themselves, the altter in regular (orange), wasabi (green), yuzu (yellow), and regular colored black with squid ink. And they have tons of groceries thanks to their recent expansion, including organic produce and frozen foods. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful around the large seafood counter. So wonderful!

Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley is huge! They have so many things to do here. They have this really old merry go round for the kids to rid in and long bike trails for the mountain bikers. It's a really cool spot to visit and have a picnic or just chill and enjoy nature's stress relievers.
