Sushi House is probably one of the best tasting Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area. The sushi here is just absolutely astonishing and top class. At lunch and dinner time, there is a huge waiting line but the staff at Sushi House manages to keep it organized. The wait is extensive after you get a seat, but it is well worth it. The price here is well worth the quality of the food.

Best Sushi service in the area. The owner is a sweet lady who goes to every table personally and welcomes people and remembers every face. The sushi is great and sometimes they will even bring special appetizers to the table!

I can't even express the fun we had with our 2 kids and their Grandparents! It was like our server was psychic!
She appeared promptly at our table with crayons and paper even tho we had obviously brought our own toys. After she went over the beverage menus she offered to get food started for the kids. We opted to wait as their Grandparents had not arrived yet and it was my Dad's restaurant choice.
The deal is that we have not been in a while because the service had been so terrible on several past occasions. We had great fun choosing our beers as the list had changed. Our server was very knowledgeable and brought us tastings so we could decide. By this time the kids were getting a little irritated, so then our Server magically appeared with balloons! What a great touch at just the right time! I opted for a glass of red and she recommended a Cab. by Andrew Lane that was a lovely and perfect choice. By this time we were having such a great time that no matter what we ordered for dinner it would be good (and it was all fabulous). Appetizers and entrees all came promptly, enough so that we actually wanted dessert....and those of you with kids know that if the service is slow there is no time for it due to imminent breakdown. Dad had a dessert cocktail he liked so much he ordered a second!
Changes that have been made at Speisekammer are so notable that if you have had any sort of bad experience you must return and let them know!!!
Pros: Fun and attentive service
Cons: Parking can be a challenge depending on time

Kamakura's is my choice for one of the best places I've ever eaten at for sushi - whether in San Francisco or Orange County. Only the freshest ingredients will do. I enjoy letting the chef surprise me with something he chooses for me. Wonderful.

An Alameda institution, Jim's recently expanded and now the famous weekend lines are shorter. This is a true short-order restaurant. Locals mix with tourists over everything from waffles to beef dip sandwiches. Very child-friendly and very noisy. Kitchsy art and photographs of patrons line the walls.
My children appreciate the lavish hands with the whipped cream.

This place is off the hook! It's awesome, and open all hours of the day. I went here a couple times after midnight to enjoy a light snack including salsa and chips, some beans and rice, and other good Mexican wholesome foods. The waiters and waitresses here are friendly and very "a la Mexicana!" Most of their dishes are good, although I have not tried too many besides the usual enchiladas (excellent), and quesadillas (so good!). The prices are very reasonable as well.
I recommend this place as a good hang out place with friends and family. If you're ever hungry at 11pm, come here! they're open!

Love this restaurant. A little cramped on the weekends and really long lines, but well worth the wait. Amazing service. The lines go quickly, with the cooks putting out plate after plate of hot food. The men who seat you are very courteous and the waitresses are fleet footed with a quick smile. And a little know secret.....they have a great dinner too. You gotta try their deserts!

Forbidden Island is an delicious escape from everything, I've been there several times in the past year and have never been disappointed. It's not just the drinks that are amazing, the entire atmosphere is great. I can't wait to get back there.
Pros: Clean and relaxing, Parking lot in back and easy street parking.
Cons: The ATM machine has vanished.

Tequilas are what *really* make dining at La Pinata special. Not many Mexican places have that many tequilas--and a staff that knows something about most of them. And their selection expands as they find new high-quality products; their recently added "Hacienda de los Diaz" is a flavor to remember; the best 'reposado' I have ever tried.
With respect to food and other aspects of the Pinata experience: this is a place whose biggest problem is its high quality; the quality brings large crowds, which can (but doesn't always) make for erratic service and other customer-volume-related unpleasantries. These flaws are more than canceled out by the portion sizes and the fact that LP is open past midnight on weekends!
