Chocolate to die for 3/27/2006

Jacques Torres' shop located is well worth visiting. They sell chocolates that are just divine and they have a little cafe where you can sit down and enjoy your hot chocolate or bon bon. The store is so great. They eveh have classes there sometimes that teach you how to make chocolate and they even give away samples of their chocolate once in awhile. If I was a kid I would so be visiting here on Halloween. more

Chocolate Haven 12/30/2005

You cannot call yourself a chocolate lover until you have sitten down at one of their tables and had a cup of their hot chocolate. Willy Wonka look out! Not only do they have some of the best chocolate in the city they also have classes that teach you how to make the chocolate for yourself and sometimes offer free samples of their chocolate. All Willy Wonka has is those Oompa Loompas and after awhile don't you get tired of all that singing. Do ba de do! more

rather eat a hersheys bar 11/30/2005

chocolate really shouldnt be messed with. this guy tries to create extravagant chocolates - but they just come out plain weird. like who wants to eat dark chocolate with candied ginger. i'll take a special dark bar any day of the week over this... someone put me on this program where i get chocolate every month. they botched the order up a few times. i also got stuck with a bunch of things i wound up throwing out. i tried exchanging some of them but they wouldnt take it back which disappointed me... more

Fun 10/4/2005

This is a really fun, destination type of place, even if you don't intend on buying much of anything. BUt no matter your intentions, because you will not be able to resist. THe hot chocolate is the best I've ever had. Make an afternoon of this place, go for a walk, bring a friend, and sit down at the bar over a cup of hot chocolate, I like the spiced one. more

Every chocolate lover's dream 9/3/2005

This place is heaven. Go here! Went here with a couple of friends after walking the bridge and it was a terrific treat. The chocolates are fresh... you can see through the glass where they make them. There are many flavors to choose from. We got 8 different flavors and took a bite of each one while sitting on a bench outside the store. They were delicious! The chocolates go well with a hot cup of coffee. more

Mr Chocolate Strikes Again 8/21/2005

Jacques Torres makes the best chocolate this town has to offer. Although his Brooklyn store has a better selection of his chocolates, at this downtown Manhattan store, he literally transforms cocoa beans into chocolate bars before your very eyes. You can taste just about everything, and will probably be buying something before you leave...its almost impossible to resist! more

For Chocoholics and the people who love them 8/6/2005

I love this store! It is dangerously near my apartment. Jacque Torres is a genius. His chocolates and chocolate creations are simply divine. If you love chocolate, then this is the store for you. His store is huge and there is an area to sit and enjoy your purchases. There's also an area to watch the bakers create the chocolate. Truly an interesting sight especially for foodies. Dark chocolate is good for you so go ahead and indulge. The only downside is the price - tres expensive but worth it. more

See Mr. Chocolate's Shop! 8/5/2005

You probably know Jacques Torres from the Food Network - if you're near Soho, you really should check out his shop. Make no mistake, it is indeed a chocolate haven (or should that be heaven?) - the rich smell of chocolate immediately envelops you when you walk in. The shop sells his truffles, chocolate bars, hot chocolate, pretty much every high end chocolate product you can imagine really. It is expensive, but no more expensive than other high end chocolate stores - that is, truffles are about $46 a pound. I highly recommend purchasing your high end chocolates (if you must indulge...) at a boutique store like Torres' instead of purchasing Godiva. It's a lot better and fresher, and believe me, you can tell the difference. more

Mr. Chocolate in Manhattan 7/26/2005

While you could buy a small part of Jacques Torres's chocolate creations at Chocolate Bar if you wanted to sample his full line you had to make the trek out to Brooklyn. Now he is here in Manhattan in a large state of the art facility. You can watch through glass as the beans are ground down into powder and the processed into chocolate. The candies and cookies are great and it's a fun place to be. more

Mr. Chocolate 7/7/2005

Chocolatier Jacques Torres calls himself Mr. Chocolate and although I've had better chocolate on occassion his shop helps him to lay claim to the titile. As you purchase your chocolates and related products (he makes it all from hot chocolate to cooking chocolate an on) behind glass you can see the production facility. Watch them crush cocoa beans and then turn them into Grade A chocolate. This is a fun and tasty place. more
