Magnifico! 2/10/2008

I'm completely comfortable paying a little extra money to have amazing food and perfect service. There is a trickle down effect, starting with the management, where every employee is courteous and professional. The head chef is creative with his new dishes and they all taste divine. I'm not sure if some of these other reviewers went to the same restaurant I did. Zola is a diamond in the rough in State College. more

Excellent food, dreadful place 1/21/2006

The quality of the food is excellent. But the prices are ridiculous for a town in the middle of nowhere. As is customary with wanna-be-fancy places, the portions are tiny. But the worst part is the place itself: a very NOISY establishment in very tight quarters. You are basically rubbing elbows with the other customers. The service is not particularly good either. And the noise makes it impossible to have a conversation. In sum: good food for ridiculous prices in a dreadful environment. more

Fine Dining comes to State College 8/26/2005

It was worth the wait. Zola finally offers world class cuisine in the middle of rural PA. Ecletic food and contemporary atmosphere make Zola a dining event. While the food is memorable, so is sitting by the window in a little black dress watching the undergrads walk by in their old navy duds as you eat course by course and forget that you are a graduate student of limited means! Zola also has a really cool bar area. A great place to sip a martini and lounge on their comfy leather couches. The lighting is low, so that professor that thinks you are at home working on your dissertation will probably not spot you from the dining area. Relax. more

not worth the money 8/11/2005

Zola is one of the few fine dining establishments within State College that goes a little experimental with their menu items. You will find many classic items that have been adapted into more fusion/eclectic dishes. The taste is okay, but a little too salty. Also, a few times that I have been there, the ingredients were not too fresh. It would not bother me so much if their prices were more reasonable, but I think as it stands Zola is simply not worth the money. The decor inside is very nice, and offers one of the few chic places inside State College, but really, that isn't saying much. more
