Good food, Great Price 11/22/2005

I have been eating here for years, and it is always the same, good food, great price. The sandwiches are pretty basic, the produce always fresh, and the service quick. I think my favorite sandwich is the ham and turkey with cheese on white bread. I always drop by and grab a sandwich to go, either to eat on campus or at home. It is college student affordable, and you get more for your money than many places on the ave. more

Great Lunch Value 9/26/2005

This is, perhaps, the best lunch value in the U-District when it comes to sub shops. Also, it might be one of the last places you can still by lunch for less than five dollars. Zilly's has your standard sub sandwich fare, but it is just a little cheaper than the other options on the Ave. The staff are nice and cheerful. more

Simple, Inexpensive, Perfect 8/16/2005

Some people think a Zilly's sub has too much bread and can't be any good because it's on the Ave, but I disagree. I love the bread. It's never too hard and it has cool little seeds or something on it. Anyone who knows me knows I don't have a complicated pallet. I like basic foods & I despise frills. At Zilly's, I am set free of the frills. You can get a 12-inch sub with ham, turkey and cheese, along with a big chocolate chip cookie for $6.50. It's filling and exactly what I need for a simple lunch. Most everyone else in line orders subs with all kinds of strange sauces that are spicy and usually put on noodle dishes, but since I never order them and am horrified of accidentally biting into one, I have no idea what they are called and if they are good. But I do know that every time I go to Zilly's I see a lot of the same people as I did all the days before, so something keeps people coming back. Oh, and the women that own and run the place are some of the warmest and friendliest in Seattle. more
