One of the oldest studios in LA, they do something right. 1/6/2012

Some people complain that this studio is crowded, well doesn't that say that they are doing something right? Sure it is a bit pricey but that is to weed out the people who are not serious about practicing. What is comes down to is this is a proper yoga studio for people that take yoga at least 1-2 times a week. Consistency is what financially makes sense, like with any membership from any studio you buy. As far as teachers, they have a plethora of ALL DIFFERENT STYLES cause there is a yoga for everyone and you may not like 1 teacher, but I am sure there is someone there for you and a yoga advisor to help fit your style. I have been going here for 10 years and I guess I'm a bit partial, but hey I'm a fan and feel like family. more

don't practice with horrible inexperienced teachers! 8/2/2011

I have almost nothing good to say about this location of yogaworks. I went three times and the first time I had a lovely teacher whose name I never got because she was subbing for another instructor. The second time i took a vinyasa level 2/3 with a happy but largely spaced out and inattentive instructor who used a dj throughout the set. I couldn't hear any of her instructions. Day three was the worst....I had an instructor who was dogmatic and arrogant. And to boot, her instructions were dubious at best..I'm a yoga instructor myself and some of her cues were ludicrous and likely to cause injury. I saw her telling one guy to push his thighs down in a forward fold when his hamstrings could clearly not take it! She was clearly inexperienced as a teacher. Worse still, she drew undue attention to certain people in the class correcting them in ways that were a bit harsh. Stay away from this place!!!! Oh and the staff don't care if you come anyway! more

If you are thinking of joining - don't 3/25/2011

If you are looking for a yoga studio you should probably pass on this location. It is way too crowded. It has gotten worse in the last few months. Just when you think there just is not room in the class three more people walk in. I am looking for another option. more

LOVE this studio 3/18/2011

I practiced at this studio 4-5 days a week for about a year before I left Los Angeles. The studio is small but the teachers are absolutely amazing! I took Steven Freedman's class regularly, he introduced me to yoga and was tremendously influential in my becoming a yoga teacher today. I consider him to be my first teacher and am thankful for all that he taught me during the time I took his class. Hazel Patterson was another one of my beginning teachers that I would recommend. Her practices were always well rounded and she was very patient with all of us. I will be returning to the Center for Yoga upon my return to L.A. most definitely! more

Save you money but most importantly your time! 9/22/2010

List of things that are wrong with YogaWorks: 1) Ridiculously overcrowded: This place is for you if you wish to get unintentionally swatted by your neighbor throughout the class. We are not sardines Yogaworks, pls don't treat us as such. 2) Incompetent & rude staff: It seems the only qualifications needed to work at reception seems to be the ability to not give a crap about customers. It's ok to smile once in while robots. Oh and while you are at it, learn how to use a computer. 3) Poor Timetable: If like most other people you actually hold a 9am-6pm job good luck getting into a post 6pm class because even if you are 10mins early they will be full. This happened to me three times this week. This very evening they turned 6 other people (that I counted in the 30 seconds it took me to walk up the stairs, get denied by the soulless staff and leave). Luckily my commute was just 20mins each way, I felt very bad for the girl that drove from the Westside. So in a nutshell if you don't arrive at least 30 mins before class starts then you are destined to be turned away. But who the hell has the time to sit around for 30mins before a 90mins class? Erm YW, ever heard of a little thing called pre-booking a class? its SIMPLE, someone should follow the Bar Methods example, customers can pre-book classes and are charged if they do not cancel 4hrs prior to the class. Others are put on a waiting list. The model works perfectly in everybody's favor. 4) Poor business model: Or should that be clever business model? With endless offers to entice new members they are certainly attracting people in hoards but they do not have the ability to accommodate all these newcomers. But then they probably knew this but what do they care, they have the money so who cares if you can actually attend a class? Not YogaWorks. Probs too busy planning their next Yogaworks Groupon deal. List of things that are right: 1) There is a Pinkberry next door. Thank the lord for small mercies. See you never YW.. more

The worst yoga studio ever! Arrogant lame creeps! 10/29/2009

I hate this place. I tried it a few times. I took a class with Steven Friedman; what an arrogant jerk. He was mean to people who weren't at the 'top' of their game physically, was impatient and rude. The guy at the desks is a complete arrogant jerk too and he's been there for years spreading ill will. Stay away! more

Great environment for yoga 7/21/2009

The classes here are beautiful and informative. The teachers are well trained, and I wonder if some have medical training as well. The classes teach you so much about how certain areas of the body respond to stress and how to release stress through practicing asanas properly. I had no idea that was practicing ""cobra"" pose without achieving its full benefits until I stepped into this studio. They are currently giving an introductory offer for new students that is very reasonable. After that it's $22/class, but I think of it like an academic-yoga workshop. UCLA would charge more per unit than Yoga Works does per class, and without giving you the same peace of mind. Go yoga works! Pros: Friendly staff, great teachers Cons: A little $$, but worth it more

Lost in the crowd... 2/10/2005

Ever since they changed their prices, the classes have become waaaay too crowded. It's hard not to whack the person next to you during sun salutations. Plus, Yoga Works changed the beginning/advanced ranking of classes and they no longer discourage beginners from attending advanced classes. As a result, teachers have to spend far too much time explaining the basics to newcomers in what used to be very advanced classes. The new management seems more interested in herding 'em in than in creating a quality yoga experience. Pros: Good teachers Cons: Crowded, Crowded, Crowded more

Center for Yoga is amazing 8/21/2002

I highly recommend the Center for Yoga because they offer a large number of classes (in various yoga styles), the classes have an excellent teacher to student ratio, and the instructors are very aware each student's experience level. They also give individual attention to students who may have injuries. Pros: many diverse classes, small classes, excellent instructors more
