Gracious, Humble, Inviting: an amazing place to just 'be' 1/3/2011

I love Yoga Union. I have gone there off and on for 5 years. I have been recommending YU to friends, relatives, and strangers for almost that long too. The energy is very good. No matter your level, the yoga union is a lovely place to practice. I don't normally write reviews but felt compelled to show support for a business that is truely deserving. more

Bad customer service! 12/23/2010

I paid for my first class at Yoga Union and then got stuck in holiday shopping traffic. I arrived about ten minutes late to class and not only would they not let me take the class but they actually lock the door as if they don't want to deal with people that are not on time. When I finally got someone to answer she was very rude to me and was literally closing the door on my while I was trying to talk to her. I'm a paying customer and she was treating my like a homeless person asking for money! I will never take any classes here in the future. It's too much of a risk to be required to pay for classes I can't take. Most other yoga places I've been to allow you to make up the class at a later date. Not these guys! more

wonderful heat & nice teachers 1/8/2006

I've been going regularly for 15 mos. Stronger, slimmer, & happier now. The hot classes are very beneficial for my middle-aged female body. They also offer relaxing room-temp classes that allow longer holds in asanas. I like the mixed ages & fitness levels in the classes, from college-age to grandparents, some dancers/athletes, & some like me recovering from injuries or long-term sloth. Everyone working silently at their own pace in a welcoming space. Supportive, pleasant, well-trained teachers always willing to answer questions about the practice. I buy the 3-month pass which is a great value and keeps me motivated to attend. Recommended. Pros: open 7 days, frequent classes, nice teachers Cons: tiny changing room more

Best Yoga in Portland 4/11/2005

Yoga Union is a great place to do Bikram Yoga. It's a serene and inspiring place to learn and better your practice. The instructors are kind, helpful and motivate you. There is no sense of competitiveness. As a mom of two young kids, I really treasure my 90 minute class and it leaves me completely refreshed and energized. The rates are also really good - especially when you buy class packages. Pros: Great teachers, Great environment more

This is a wonderful place for beginners and those experienced with yoga already. The teachers are kind and caring. They're very helpful when your doing poses; helping you get into the stretches and showing you ways to improve your practice. Pros: helpful teachers more

yoga-goers! 6/8/2004

This place is great for those who love the heat and format of Bikram studios, but not the decidedly un-yoga-like competetive atmosphere of some. The teachers are serious about yoga, but encouraging and helpful, each with their own style, and they have other sorts of classes beyond the 'usual' 2 sets of 26 poses format (including pre- and post-natal). The studio has a real 'community center' feel, and it's clean and inviting, not too stuffy or hippy. I love this place! Pros: friendly, excellent teachers, location more

This yoga is HOT! 9/24/2002

As a new yoga student I found the instructors most inviting. The heat can be tough, but I feel like I've made progress largely due to the added warmth of my muscles. There are a variety of teachers, some focusing on breathing and relaxation, some on breathing and strength - the classes can vary from meditation-esque to downright tough. They post the schedule so that you can go when the instructor of your choice is leading....I have four that I adore! more
