Delicious, drippy burgers! 2/11/2010

I'd choose this diner over Red Robin any day! This place is great for kids of all ages with their amazing burgers, eclectic and vintage decor, and frosted rootbeer mugs. Stepping inside of XXX Rootbeer is immersing yourself in a piece of Americana. I hope that this place sticks around, it's the last in the country! more

Anyone tried the ultimate 6/25/2009

I contemplated this weekend to get their ultimate burger. It's big and it has like 5 patties. I ended up getting the bacon burger, 409 Tri Power? It was juicy, but the patty was rather small. Didn't hit me as good as last time. The rootbeer float is still the killer. I kinda wish their patty would be bigger, so that's one less star than before from me. more

Awesome 8/23/2008

Good: I really like the diner style decoration, the quantity and quality of the food. Burger and Root Beer float!. Bad: It's bit pricey but I am willing to pay for it for the experience and the memory.. Improvements: Ordering and pick up is little hectic.. more

Great root beer...and not much else 9/29/2006

I have been to XXX a handful of times in the 13 years I lived on the Eastside, and the last time we went with friends a few weeks ago it was a miserable experience. The root beer was as good as always. The onion rings and fries were just greasy and the burgers were nothing special. Our server was downright rude to myself and our friends, and that sealed the deal. Two thumbs down for this place. more

Another Reason to Avoid Issaquah 3/28/2006

Some co-workers talked me into going to Issaquah for lunch to try some BBQ place. Unfortunately when we got there, we discovered that said place was no longer in business. Since we were already in Issaquah, we decided to try something else. I lost the vote, and we ended up at XXX. First strike, the place smells terrible. Second strike, the food is expensive. Third strike, the food doesn't taste very good. I wont be returning to this dive. Giddy-up. more

Perfect Spot Post Skiing on Snoqualmie 3/23/2006

OK, so the food is just fine - huge burgers, curly fries, giant sodas and ice cream. What could be wrong with that after skiing and falling down a lot? Add to this the fact that the place is covered wall to wall with real 50s car memorabilia and that the manager is a very kid friendly person (although the wait staff is forgetful) and you are all set. more

The Perfect Burger Joint... 2/3/2006

Everytime, I go to this place, I savor it. I just know that it will one day soon be demolished for a condo complex, but in the mean time get to one of the ten best root beer joints left in the country. They are famous for their root beers and with great justification. The kids and I can each slurp one and beg for more. The memorabilia is wonderful and the family that owns it just great. The best spot is actually their bar area where you can watch them make things. The hamburgers are of course great, but we just love their flat tires (flat chicken breast) and their onion rings are wonderful. The french fries are super fresh. The four on the floor (four chicken strips) are wonderful. We did find their fish sticks to be a little greasy. Their chicken burger is wonderful. It is a wonderful place to try post skiing at the Summit or after a bike ride. Big picnic area outside too! more

burgers, and rootbeer floats 8/20/2005

xxx rootbeer is the only one left in the country. They get the rootbeer specially made by coke. Their walls are filled with car memorbilia, it seems you can find something new to look at everytime you come there. They have classic american style burgers, grilled cheese, chicken fingers, etc. All the sandwiches are named after a car. They have great rootbeer floats, shakes etc. They also hold antique car shows, or roadster car shows throughout the year. This is an issaquah city classic, a must see. more

Juicy and Messy Burgers 7/16/2005

XXX Rootbeer is quite the site. The restaurant is bursting out the seems with car memorabilia. Very fun for kids...and husbands! The burgers are sooo messy and full of flavor. The onions rings are crisp and sweet. The rootbeer comes in a big frosty mug...hits the spot. My only complaint is they charge 85 cents more for rootbeer without ice??? Seems kinda silly. more

Like a timewarp to the 50's drive in diner! 6/9/2005

There is nothing cooler than going to XXX on a summer Sat night! There is usually something going on. Loud 50's music. When we went they acutally had a DJ. Lots of people just hanging out! There are always lots of cool classic cars parked to show off. Its a cool place to be and the food is great! While I dont eat "burgers" myself they do have something for everyone. And I did get a view of the burgers and they are HUGE! more

xxx? yup, it's that obscene! 4/3/2005

xxx rootbeer?! no, that's not a typo. nor is it a really odd porn movie. it is, however, a fun hamburger joint in issaquah that serves the biggest, juiciest, yummiest burgers i've ever seen. i'm talking one-napkin-per-bite juicy with fries, curly fries, onion rings, and toppings galore. they also have veggie burgers, chicken, etc. for those of you who do not eat the beef. and the vintage muscle-car theme makes it extra fun to eat there. but wait, there's more... root beer floats. personally, i hate root beer. always hated it, don't even like the smell of it. well, these people make their own root beer and damn their floats are SO good that i now crave one on a weekly basis. my biggest complaint is that i can't stick my entire head in the mug to lick the bottom of the glass when i'm through. xxx is right off exit 17 (front street), easy to get to, and well worth the ride from anywhere. that's my story and i'm stickin with it. more

The Last Historical Rootbeer Drive-in in the USA

Editorial
  • The Scene
As the last remaining outpost of this beloved '50s-era chain, XXX almost feels like sacred ground--or at least a treasure-filled time capsule. A vintage muscle-car theme runs through every aspect of the decor, from the antique-glass nitrous dispensers lining the classic Coke machine to the touches of chrome and hundreds of auto photos decorating the bright, bustling dining room. Servers are consistently good-natured and helpful, but can get overwhelmed by the crowds.

    The Food
All that nostalgic charm wouldn't matter if the grill fell short, but the burgers are uncommonly tasty. Liberally seasoned charbroiled patties are served on sturdy toasted buns and embellished with flawless accompaniments: thick, peppery bacon; smoky, piquant "special sauce"; savory sauteed mushrooms, and even generous slices of ham. Fries and onion rings are crispy, golden perfection and the hand-dipped shakes are divine (and their mammoth size definitely dictates sharing).
