A BAD CHINESE RESTUARANT IN EDGEWATER 1/19/2009

I KEEP SAYING I WILL NEVER EAT THERE OR HAVE MY FOOD DELIVERED. BUT SINCE IT IS NEXT DOOR AND SO CONVENIENT I DO IT LIKE A FOOL. NEVER LEARN FROM THE BAD EXPERIENCES I HAVE EACH TIME I GO THERE. THE WAIT STAFF ARE RUDE AND OBNOXIOUS. LADY TAKING ORDERS OVER THE PHONE IS LIKEWISE. THE KUNG PAO CHICKEN HAD ONLY PEANUTS W/ A FEW BITES OF CHICKEN. THE MOO SHOO PORK WAS STALE AND BITTER AS HELL, EGG ROLL WAS ABSOLUTELY A DISGRACE. SOGGY AND STALE. THE ONLY THING NICE ABOUT IT IS THE RED BUILDING THEY ARE LOCATED IN. I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO RETURN MY ORDER .BUT IT WAS ONE OF THOSE FREEZING MINUS 14F KIND OF WEATHER. EDGEWATER FOLKS ..PLEASE AVOID THIS CHINESE PLACE Pros: LOCATION WITH PARKING Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE IS TERRIBLE. more

Great take Out - Better Eat In 7/28/2007

Most of the time when you order Chinese it comes out gloppy - Wing H (can't spell the rest of the name or review won't take) impressed us with some flavor - not a lot of gloppy sauces and freshness - for 5 years we have been ordering take out from them at least 3 or 4 times a month. Their crispy shrimp - ordered not spicy is really good - crab rangoon has a good bite to it - not soggy- orange chicken is good and sweet and sour is delivered in separate containers so as not to get soggy on the trip. When you eat in - a diffent experience - double the freshness and so much more yummy! And we thought the take out was good. Service is uneven - that goes for in waitstaff as well as the people answering the phone more

Definitely worth it! 1/13/2007

Can't beat this place for chinese food on the north side. I'm reading some of these reviews and they must not know what they are talking about. The egg rools and crab rangoon are best in town. Atmosphere isn't anything to write home about, but one goes there for the food not trendy decor. Pros: Parking more

Seems OK. 11/6/2006

First of all, I just really love the name. Second, I like the old building it's in. Third, I like that they make it handicapped accessible. And fourth, the food I've tried was very good. Granted, it's only been once, but I don't expect much from Chinese restaurants these days. Most of them just taste cheap and unhealthy. But I got some sort of stir-fried green bean dish that was delicious and filling. I had enough left over that I had lunch for the next day. more

VERY UNEVEN FOOD, EXTREMELY RUDE STAFF 9/14/2006

I definitely do not recommend this place... in fact, I would strongly recommend that people avoid eating here. The food is very unpredictable and many dishes are hardly edible. But worst of all, the wait staff is EXTREMELY rude, to the point of being embarrassing to be around. They don't answer questions, they don't listen to requests, they argue with you after bringing you the wrong thing, they actually SHOUT at you if you complain. MY GOD, I've never been so insulted at a restaurant. There are many, many Chinese places in Chicago, and most are pretty good, so there's no reason at all to patronize this place!! Pros: I once had good egg rolls here. Cons: Just about everything I can think of... food unpredictable, service really awful, rude staff more

Adequate but nothing special 8/11/2006

I've been on a kick where I've been trying new restaurants and I tried this place (the Citysearch filter won't let me include the name) based on the reviews on Citysearch. Frankly, given how positive everyone was, I was disappointed. I ordered the orange chicken as a dinner (includes an egg roll, your choice of soup -- I chose hot and sour -- and ice cream). Nothing was bad but nothing was exceptional either, just adequate. The soup was somewhat bland, the egg roll was large but rather greasy, the chicken (dark meat) was fatty and not very rich or spicy and the ice cream (chocolate -- their choice, not mine) was very ordinary. On top of that, although the dinner option was a good deal, it wasn't that inexpensive. If I lived nearby, I might find myself going there again but I don't consider it worth the trip. There are better Chinese restaurants closer to me in the same price range. Pros: Free parking, fast service on a Friday night Cons: Everything was just adequate more

Love Me Some Wing Hoe 3/28/2006

After looking for some descent Chinese food without having to drive down south to Chinatown, I think I've found it at Wing Hoe. It's not the prettiest place in the world and the service is sometimes a bit iffy (server taking the sweet and sour sauce before you're finished), but who cares if the food is good. Ifyou live within the delivery area, they're ridiculously quick which is good! Pros: good food, parking Cons: not really pretty, service is iffy more

Disappointed 10/29/2005

the food was good, but disappointed in the lack of cooperation to find out what is in each dish & pick my own vegetables. each time i go, the dishes do not have a lot of sauce, so i ask for extra. everytime, they only give me two soy and one thing of sweet and sour. food was good, but service needs a bit of work. Pros: location Cons: service unfriendly more

to die for! 6/20/2004

You can not eat a machine made egg roll after trying there ""100% home made"" egg rolls. The shrimp are so large in the egg roll, I was hoping the staff would provide a 'saddle' to put on them! Dinner for two is GREAT VALUE! Great replacement for the legendart ""BEYOND THE REEF RESTAURANT"" Pros: FREE PARKING , FAST SERVICE, INEXPENSIVE more

Reallly Gooodddddd 1/17/2003

This is the best resturant on earth... Good Food !!! Pros: Good FOod, Good Parking, Nice service more

Great Food 9/16/2002

I live on the Southwest side of Chicago and I always take the trip up to Wing Hoe because I know the food is worth it. I have not been able to find a better Chinese restaurant in or around Chicago. Pros: inexpensive, parking lot more

YUMMM 8/27/2002

The Empress Chicken is so good it made me cry. Dinner for 2 is great value. more

Best Egg Rolls! 8/19/2002

The Lo Mein was sublime and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone! more

One of a Kind!!!! 8/3/2002

The crispy shrimp at Wing Hoe is a must. There's nothing like it in any of the other restaurants that I've eaten at. more

Try it at least once! 7/30/2002

I've gone to Wing Hoe for years, and I think it's the best Chinese food on the north side that I've tried so far. Their delivery is quick, and just as good as dining in. I don't think their food is bland at all, it has just the right amount of everything. You can't beat the ""dinner for 2"", it includes appetizers and it would easily feed 3! Try Wing Hoe once and I think you'll go back for more. more
