I love this Shoppe 3/14/2009

I simply told the guys I wanted white wine and told them my budget, and they brought out several selections and described their qualities to me, using words like ""smoky"" and ""crisp"" and ""hint of vanilla"" and other great descriptors. It was lots of fun. And the wine was superb (all smoky and crisp and hinty). Just be sure you don't try to enter the store from the side you used to enter Grace's-- the entrance is around on the Hillsboro Road side. Pros: Knowledgeable staff, great selection Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Love The Wine Shoppe 2/15/2008

The Wine Shoppe is a great find. While I've been drinking wine for several years now and am starting to get the feel for my tastes and favorites, its always great to have someone more knowledgeable help find a good bottle. The guys at The Wine Shoppe make great recommendations - whether you're trying to cut corners, looking for a $15 bottle that tastes more like a $30 bottle, or are trying to find something nice for a special occasion, they've always got the right bottle somewhere. Go out of your way to say hello and you won't be disappointed!\r \r Great selection. Friendly Service. Convenient location. Cons: Parking more

3 strikes, you're out 1/21/2007

6 months ago I asked about less expensive vodka brands in this shop and they became defensive, bordering on rude, as if it were an insult. I'm not an experienced shopper in liquor stores, so I was a little surprised at this. But I returned a few months later with my notebook list of wines. They saw my list when I came in. I enjoyed walking up and down the isles looking at different brands and looking for brands on my list. Twice the cashiers walked up behind me when the shop was empty, then turned around and walked back to the register. I am almost certain they were looking for wine bottles stashed in my jeans or little purse! I was again surprised as they didn't seem to mind me feeling uncomfortable, but they never ask me if I needed help. Another cashier came out of the office and stared at me, with no smile or words. So I left with no purchase. In a few months I'll try again. But I'm pretty skeptical things will be different. Sorry! Pros: Variety Cons: customer service more

The Wine Shoppe at Green Hills says thanks and check us out NOW! 9/9/2006

Hey, this is Ed and Josh at the Wine Shoppe. We heard about the reviews on citysearch and wanted to say thanks! We have some good news!\r \r First, Townsend...thanks for posting your thoughts. We have just finished steps 1 & 2 of a\r major upgrade to our shoppe. It is on it's way to being the most organized wine shoppe\r anywhere. Thanks to our exploding volume of sales from all the great wine lovers in Nashville,\r we had to do something to allow you to walk through the store. Gone are the piles of dusty\r bottles in old boxes. Now there's plenty of room to walk and it'll get even better in the month's\r ahead. I admit that the old hardware or Davis Cutlery style old-fashion store was cool, but this\r has allowed us to increase our selection of even more unique, fun wines and we now have lots\r of terrific wines under $20. Truthfully, the staff can now spend time tasting and picking wines\r and giving you our undivided attention instead of searching for wines hidden all over the place\r while you wait. Response has been incredible. We've been around almost six years and this\r year we promise the celebration is for you and our thanks for putting up with us for this long.\r \r Youppi...thanks so much for the great write-up. We couldn't have said it better.\r \r Just know we are listening to you and we appreciate the comments (good or bad) because it\r helps us become a better merchant.\r \r That being said, we have been named best wine/liquor retailer for three years in a row by\r readers of the Nashville Scene (again, thanks!) YOU haven't seen nothin' yet. I venture to\r say we now have the best staff in Nashville and we have the coolest and most ""important""\r wine selection of non-swill, non-mass-marketed REAL wines in Tennessee. Not the largest,\r but certainly the tastiest...and most fun. That's all that matters. \r \r Thanks again and seriously, if we don't impress you, contact us directly and help us improve.\r That's the way it should rightfully be. Thanks!!!!!!!\r \r \r \r more

Always something there 8/28/2006

People look for different things in their local wine shop. For me, I like a place that always has a few hidden gems mixed in with all of the mass marketed stuff, as well as the staff to point you in the right direction. The team is great to work with - you can browse on your own or they're happy to help, even to track down wines that may not be in the store. As they will be sure to tell you, come in on ""Wine Wednesday"" for 10% off. Pros: Selection, Fun to walk around more

Hit or Miss 6/4/2006

This store definitely has a much larger selection of wines than Village Wines. For me this is both a positive and a negative. It can be a bit confusing and overwhelming, but at the same time you do have a large selection to choose from. The store was cramped and unorganized. I did ask for assistance and they were more than happy to help. I am starting to get into wine and learn as much as possible. I just wish there was a store that worked with me one on one that knew all about their wines so they could provide me with enough information to know what the wine I am buying is going to taste like. I hate playing hit or miss. more
