Just average - it's a Landry's 10/16/2010

We visited the Post Oak location last Friday because it was convenient. Landry's restaurant chain owns this place in order to have a presence in the Galleria area and I knew what to expect when I came here - average to slightly better food, trendy decor, above average prices, adequate service, nice bar, etc., but I didn?t expect or receive anything out of the ordinary, special, or unique. We were served a nice meal in a nice place, but it?s certainly not worth more than average rating. Any reviewer who gushes about the place or any Landry's restaurant has apparently not been to many really good restaurants. If you want a good seafood place, go to Brennans; come here for convenience only. more

Deteriorating 7/5/2010

I used to love this place a few years ago. I always tried to bring my friends and clients there for an excellent (at that time) lobster bisk and scallops. No more. This restaurant had deteriorated so significantly over the last few years that I did not recognize it any more. The decor is still the same, but both food and service are below acceptable. The oysters I ordered were not fresh, so they replaces them - not fresh again, so I had to sent them back all together. I ordered scallops as a main course - big mistake. The scallops came raw and tasteless. Talking to the manager had no effect all together. This place has no future if they do not change the chef and the manager. Pros: location Cons: service, food quality more

Nothing To Rave About 2/28/2010

We had a party of 15 people to celebrate my sister's birthday. We arrived at different times so we ordered Drinks and Appetizer during Happpy Hour, while we waited on the other guests to arrive. The waiter put everything on one bill, which proved to be a nightmare at the end of the evening . The waiter had 3 other large tables and it was obvious he could not keep up with our orders or addtional requests. The other large tables that were seated after our party was served much more efficiently. In fact they had appetizers, salads, dinner, drinks, and left before we recieved our second round of drinks. The food was just ok, the drinks were good, but 3.5 hours is too long to wait for poor service especially when18% gratuity added. To make matters worse the waiter did not bring anything like cake, pie, or candles to help us celebrate the birthday we all came together for. The manager was called over several times and made some adjustments, but not enough to visit Willie G's again. Pros: Great Location & Decor Cons: The Food and Service does not measure up! more

Great seafood 1/18/2010

Losing Its Touch 1/20/2008

Hostess= 0 stars due to very poor attitude. Looked bothered that people were actually showing up in resturant...For management one of the two young ladies working on Jan 19th 08 evening shift Pros: Parking, Desserts Cons: Fruit Flies, Hostess more

Expensive, yet poorly executed. 11/6/2007

Really awful chicken and sausage gumbo. Thin stock that just tasted like burned flour. Sausage tasted like supermarket fare, and the chicken tasted like can chicken. I've never actually tasted canned chicken, but I saw it in the market and imagine it taste like Willie G's. Pros: Mmmmmm, none come to mind. Cons: Quailty and price. more

Great Lunch but Too Loud 9/5/2007

The Food was great including desert. The only downside is the noise in the restaurant, beautiful restaurant but the noise is too much, almost a reason not to go to the restaurant. Waitstaff is excellent and the food is excellent. If you don't mind the noise factor, excellent place to dine. Pros: Service & Food Cons: Noise Level more

Very bad service, good food though 5/17/2007

Well, I was recommended this restaurant as the best seafood place in town so I took my husband and a bunch of our friends (around 20) to celebrate his B-day. My husband, bro in law & Me arrived first to the place and we were welcomed and promptly seated even though we were only 3 out of the 20 (that's a good thing). Our table was reallyyyy big and we were assigned only one waiter that could barely speak English, so we had to say our orders more than once to be understood. after everybody's arrived we started ordering & this took forever!! the waiter was way too slow and he would only take one order at a time!!! then he dissapears & show up after 5 min to take the next order. To cut the story short, we were not satisfied with the service, food wasn't that spectacular, Portions not too big not too small, but a little bit over priced for the amount of it. Recomendations: Order the stuffed jalapenios (yummy) and anything that's fried (though am not big fan of fried seafood) cuz it seems this restaurant is specialized in fried seafood which was really tasty. the broiled stuff was so so! finally we only got 1 check for all of us (the 20)!! took us forever to be able to pay and the staff were not really helpful nor that friendly! Pros: Nice setting, good food Cons: a little bit pricey, bad service more

Not that impressed... 7/30/2006

I recently had dinner there with my family and my fiancee's family, and although the service was outstanding, the food was average at best. Most of us ordered broiled fish with a topping which is ~$30/person. When the food arrived, it was obvious it had been sitting under a heat lamp for sometime--the cheese on my twice baked potatoes had congealed! Everyone in the group seemed to enjoy their meals, however. I just would have expected our food to have been a little less ""stale"" when it was brought to the table. Pros: Great decor, Service Cons: Price more

Lot's of food 7/27/2005

All of the meals were in great abundance. The bread was very tasty but you have to be careful not to fill up on it. The crab bisque was loaded with crab meat. The gumbo seem a bit on the thin side but had an ok flavor and seemed more like soup than gumbo. The entre's were visually stimulating as well as flavorful. All in all, bring your appetite. more

Great upscale place 5/24/2005

I love this restuarant. Nice atmosphere and great taking seafood. The Bisque really scored big with me, my wife, my in-laws who are from Iowa. more

Wide Selection 8/22/2003

The wide selection of fishes, as well as the variety of preparations makes this great. Nice interior, as well as good service. Only downer is the hefty prices. more

Mixups in the kitchen are your fault? 4/15/2003

After ordering a ""snapper - willie gs"" style (i.e. plain snapper with lemon butter sauce), we were served a different dish for twice the price. The night manager, said it was my fault and that he was being nice by letting me return the dish. I was about to leave when the bar manager, a true professional, Marvin, intervened, served me the dish I ordered, and allowed me to keep the other. The night manager returned to remind me that he was being nice even though it was my fault for ordering (?), and proceeded to snatch the old dish away from my fiance who was holding it in her hands. Let me say this: There are limits to the amount of outrageous behavior I will tolerate from anyone, especially those charging me $32 for fish I didn't order. This is no way to run a business. Pros: Marvin, at the bar, good food, good parking Cons: crazy night manager, expensive, dinner salad more

Refreshing 12/27/2002

The view was spectacular. The sunset was breathtaking. Living in the big city, there is hardly an astonishing moment. We enjoyed the food on the patio where the wind was cool and the waiter was too. Pros: menu, great parking Cons: long wait more

Great food BUT........ 10/14/2002

Willie G's has the best seafood dishes in town. I am from southwest Louisiana and enjoy fresh, well prepared seafood dishes. I have dined at many seafood restaurants in Houston, and Willie G's is by far the tastiest. It is slightly disappointing the increase in the cost of their entrees in the past 6 years or so, this prevents me spending more time there as well as the fact that they REFUSE to let diners split an entree The serve large portions of food, but refuse to sell half orders or let persons split an order of food. This is unreasonable and bit ridiculous. Pros: best food Cons: no half orders, no split entrees, too pricey more
