The Williamsburg Art & Historical Center was once the Kings County Savings Bank, built in 1868. For the last decade, it's been a nonprofit gallery, and the building seems to be in perpetual renovation. Don't expect air conditioning in summer or full heat in winter, but do expect an eclectic lineup of shows every six weeks in season. The web site could use some updating, but my understanding is that, after further renovations to the building, shows will resume in January 2006. It's well worth a visit--make sure you look at the medallions on the back wall that honor the artisans who worked on this building, with its unusual Second Empire-style mansard roof.
