Go camping 2/22/2006

Some of my fondest childhood memories are from camping out in umstead park. My girl scout troop wuld go on a bi-monthly basis camping in this park. its always a good time, and deep enough in the wood, and far enough away from the city taht you feel like you're really out in nature. They have some awesome trails to navigate...Its a greatway to get out in nature, whether you spend the day or spend the night. more

Outdoor Trails Great for Pets 2/17/2006

William B Umstead Park is a large park situated in Raleigh. Main access to the park is off Glenwood Avenue, between the Car Max and Brier Creek. The park has excellent walking trails for people and pets alike. Be sure to keep your pooch on a leash! It is the best way to keep Fido safe. more

Outdoor escape near a big city 8/20/2005

William B. Umstead State Park offers hiking trails, biking trails, fishing and outdoor fun just minutes from the big city. The park has shelters that can be reserved for events and restroom facilities that are usually clean. The trails are well maintained and can be enjoyed by families and serious hikers. At one time, camping was available, but I'm not sure about that now. Please check the website for more information about this great state park. more

Worth a trip! 8/17/2005

I had always seen signs for William B Umstead State Park on Route 70, but I had not taken the time to go until recently. I had a great time! The trails are not too long to accomplish in an afternoon and they are well marked! I was accompanied by my friend and her children and they kept up well. Although you can hear many planes flying overhead, it didn't personally bother me! I will definitely go back here! more

Nature Park in Raleigh is cool 8/5/2005

Umstead is a great park for the Raleigh area, although it's just pitiful compared to pisgah, and the smokies in Western North Carolina. The Water quality of the creeks and "rivers" is a joke, and every five or ten minutes while you're out there a plane will fly over on it's way to the airport. The trailheads on the cary side are better in my opinion, more scenic. While the sycamore trail on the hwy 70 entrance is a lot longer (about 6 miles or so). There's also a cool 12 mile loop that I hear is cool, but I've never been on. more
