He takes his time, which isn't a bad thing at all! Dr. Stephen Wiles, a pediatrician in Raleigh, NC, is one of those doctors you would think doesn't exist anymore: he takes time with your child, building an extensive case history at each visit. Unlike other pediatricians who zip in and out of examinations at the rate of up to five an hour, Dr. Wiles sees typically only one child per hour and actually remembers your child's name when she returns. He is especially good with special needs kids, deferring to parents critical decisions such as whether or not to vaccinate. Although he definitely leans towards the merits of vaccinating your child, he doesn't demean the parents who express reservations or concerns, unlike many other pediatricians who express open contempt for research that doesn't fit the accepted body of medical research. One word of caution: don't be late to your appointments. A couple of repeat tardies, and he'll politely ask you to find a new practice, one that doesn't build such extensive examination time into its schedules.
