Chaos chaos everywhere 5/20/2006

This Whole Foods has been growing on me lately. It has the benefit of being all on one level (my chief complaint about the Union Square location) and a very strong sushi bar. On the downside, it's designed to cater towards people getting a snack as opposed to doing grocery shopping, so it's mobbed with indecisive people who are in your way at all times (yes, I am cantankerous as a rule, why do you ask?), and it's set up in a way that makes delaing with their fresh goods counter-intuitive. Good salad bar, very good cheese section, weak on baked goods. more

Right by my place 4/3/2006

Whole Foods is located conveniently closed to my apartment, so I can venture out there whenever I have the time. However, I must say I usually walk around the Time Warner Center and then decide not to go to Whole Food because it is just so crowded. When I do go down those stairs, it is like I am trapped in an elevator full of people. Despite the long lines and the immense crowds, Whole Foods has some of the best prepared foods ever. Their parfaits are also excellent! more

Lots and lots of great stuff to look at and eat 3/29/2006

I love Whole Foods and it makes the Columbus Circle area so much fun. Whole Foods has an amazing selection of produce and meats and packages yummy things - but perhaps the most fun is the prepared foods. There are two huge salad bars with hot and cold salad items including everything from baby spinach to frisee to artichokes to couscous to different kinds of tofu. There is an Indian section of hot food - and the deli counter is amazing - there are sandwiches of all kinds. Ooo! and yummy pizza too! There's a coffee section, a wall of olives - mmm! It's so fun. Sitting, however is a challenge, because it gets really crowded. more

Whole Foods 3/21/2006

I love this supermarket. Everything is so clean and organized although on the expensive side. But then a lot of supermarkets in New York City are expensive and not nearly as clean and organized as Whole Foods. I sometimes go for lunch as well. The checkout lines are usually long but they move very fast so it is almost as if there is no line. more

Everything you'd need 3/17/2006

I love Whole Foods. This place has just about everything you might need to make dinner and more. The produce is always fresh and the meats are really good. One might find lower prices at the local supermarket but give me quality over quantity any day. The aisles are wide so you don't have to worry about playing bumper car with your cart and one stop shopping eliminates wasting time going from store to store to get what you need for dinner. more

Love my Whole Foods 3/9/2006

I am very loyal to my local Whole Foods and shop here whenever possible. Some items (not all - I have price compared) are more expensive than other groceries in the area, but overall the quality is highest here at WF. The produce selection can be limited, but that is true almost everywhere in NYC at this time of year! I am a big fan of their cheese selection & the meat counter guys are great. Don't be fooled by the seemingly long lines (unless you come at lunchtime on a weekday perhaps) - I shop here at least once a week and have never been in line for more than 4 or 5 minutes (and that was the absolute longest). They know how to direct traffic in those lines (though they could improve the traffic jams by the meat & dairy cases) more

So much better than the Whole Foods in Jersey 1/29/2006

Being from Jersey, let me tell you that this Whole Foods is a very good value, considering its prime Columbus Circle location in the basement of the Time Warner Center. Their prices are on par with what I pay back home. So this store is worth it. If you are in New York City and want to eat something good and fairly affordable, I recommend checking out Whole Foods. It'll still take as long as going to a restaurant, since you really have to wait for so long to pay. But the food is delicious and they have all sorts of international flavors. I tried their Indian specialties: pretty good I'd say! The food court is very nicely decorated; it's like a top notch restaurant. The bakery had so many rolls and cakes; it reminded me of a classy French patisserie. Very nice store indeed! I highly recommend shopping here for tourists, who can get some nice drinks and treats here. Perfect for trips to Central Park. Oh and there's a Jamba Juice too! more

Checkout conductors doing good work 10/7/2005

I'm not being at all wry when I say that those conductors do a swell job. I've pit-stopped at all 3 Whole Foods in Manhattan (Columbus Circle, Chelsea, & Union Square) and my checkout has always gone beautifully despite the throngs of shoppers. I find Whole Foods to be slightly more expensive than what seems sensible on many things, particularly the deli/takeout & bakery foods. Specific items and some produce are good deals and sample days can be fun. The locations tend to be very convenient though. I would much rather stop at Whole Foods than the Food Emporium when going through Union Square on the way home-- and what better place to grab something for Central Park than in the basement of Columbus Circle? Not to mention the mall's public restrooms. . . In general though the best whole foods are still at the local farmers' market and the local co-ops. more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! 10/6/2005

In my opinion, this place is the only reason the Columbus Circle Time Warner Center is around. Whole Foods Market is a huge supermarket of delicious and healthy things. They have everything a great supermarket should, with beautiful produce and other things, but probably the best part is the food court. They have prepared international foods from everywhere, pizza by the foot, delcious and fresh sushi, and anything else you could imagine in the way of a salad bar. It's by the pound, and it's not terribly expensive. Love it! more

I don't mind it 10/4/2005

I don't mind Whole Foods as much as I thought I would, that I would find the prices insanely expensive etc. But I have found that there are a few items priced lower than many other stores. Of note, I find that dairy products especially yogurt, are chepaer than anywhere else. Also, frozen products are priced very well, especially the Whole foods brand frozen items such as fruits and vegetables are almost $2 per bag. Also the Whole Foods canned items are a good deal. It ain't Trader Joes, but I do appreciate the effort. more

So much food 8/18/2005

This store is located inside the Time Warner Center. It takes up the entire bottom level. There's a vast array of fresh produce. The price has been greatly inflated. It's higher than other stores. It's probably because it's in the Time Warner Center. There is a bakery, cafe, etc inside. They sell flowers too. more
