BEWARE!!! Staff will add their own tips to your bill 1/22/2012

We ended up here last night. It's a tiny place with some of the worst service staff I've ever come across. The bartender decided to ask us what we wanted to drink about 10-15 minutes after we sat down. Note, there were only a couple of other people in the place. We had to flag her down to get a second round, and again to get the check. Since she ignored us when we were trying to ask for the check, my friend walked up to the bar, asked for the check and asked her NOT to run the credit card she was holding. She proceeded to run it anyway and then handed him the receipt. When we pointed out her error, she said the transaction wouldn't go through until we signed the receipt. At that exact moment, my friend received a text message stating that the transaction had gone through. After rolling her eyes a few times, she called up a manager, who said he couldn't reverse the transaction because it was up to the bank. Not wanting to cause a scene, we decided to work out the bill between ourselves, but we did not leave a tip... simply because that was an awful experience. This was the second time in my life I have ever not left a tip. Usually there's always something positive about the experience that guilts me into leaving something. There is nothing positive I can say about this place. The awful staff, the overpriced drinks (double the price of whisky elsewhere), the pretentious 'reserved' cards that they put down on every table around 7pm. It's a tiny space on the 33rd floor of the W, with a decent view but nothing is worth that experience. To make matters worse, today my friend checked his account to realize that they added a 20% tip to the receipt after we left. He will be calling the hotel tomorrow to register his complaint and I will continue to update after the issue is settled. Don't bother going here. We would have had a better night drinking water at home. more

Not worth the trip 4/1/2006

My husband and I were staying at the W City Center and decieded to check out the W Lakeshore. While the view from Whiskey Sky was impressive the service was just average. It was way to small. Not a good place for a conversation. The bar at the W City Center was much better. Cons: Crowded, Loud more

DEFINITELY not worth the trip to the 33rd floor 5/16/2005

Stayed at the W over the weekend (which was outstanding) and decided to head up to Whiskey Sky Saturday night. What a disappointment! Tiny, crowded, view was not even remotely breathtaking, and the server was too busy sitting and chatting with friends to take our drink orders. The crowd just seemed like your average hipsters, not even any good people watching. Might be better when less crowded and when you can see the lake, but don't bother making a special trip. more

Small but cozy 1/23/2005

Great looking place, great music & drinks. Beautiful staff & guests. Incredible view great for a date on slow nights. Yeah, drinks are higher than they are in Naperville or some beer garden in Wrigley, but if you need to complaine about the price you shouldn't be righting a review or going there. Don't expect to get your ass kissed, just go & have fun. That's how I do it & it's always a good time. Pros: View, Good looking staff, atmosphere more

One of the Best Bars in Chicago 2/23/2004

The view from this bar is magnificent. The drink prices are reasonable considering the atmosphere. Easy to have a conversation. Incredible place. Pros: great atmosphere, posh design, awesome view more

Not worth the trip to the 33rd florr. The lobby bar is more creatively designed, and roomier. Cons: design, no dancing more

good for a date. I went earlier in the evening, and it was a nice, relaxed place. Waitresses' were attentive, but it was fairly pricey. The crowd was yuppie, but I don't go out for the crowd, I go out to enjoy myself. I enjoyed myself, and my date, at Whiskey sky. Pros: atmosphere Cons: value more

Sexy lounge-y vibe 6/10/2002

The scene here is pretty mellow during the week, making it a good spot for pre-dinner drinks or an after-work cocktail. Plan on spending at least $10 a drink, though. The view of the lake is beautiful, framed by diaphanous blue curtains and a lapis-colored ceiling. Also a good place for people-watching, as swanked-up scene-stealers drop in to get noticed. Pros: Great view Cons: Expensive drinks more
