Cheap bowling on Monday nights 6/23/2008

\r $10 unlimited bowling from 9pm -1am on Mondays... that includes everything- the lane, the shoes, and even free popcorn... the concession stand has really nice workers and great chilli hot dogs. Great atmosphere. A place to drink with your friends or take the family out for a night more

Great league bowling, popular open bowl 1/10/2007

The bigscreens on the lanes are at Highland. Westgate has fun adult leagues during the week and a solid weekend youth league. It's pretty popular on the weekends and gets crowded with open bowlers, especially young 20-somethings. Call ahead to see how long the wait is if you think you might be going at a busy time. It's also a great place for kids as the lanes have auto-bumpers that will raise and lower for the different bowlers. Pros: Good staff, good food at the grill, huge parking lot more

A Big Change 3/14/2006

Growing up in Austin and bowling at Westgate I would have never recommended it to anyone. But recently I went there on a company function and also a recent tournament and I was blwon away with the changes that were made. The center was clean and the people were helpful and freindly as well. I may not agree with the big screens on the lanes but that can be a selling tool for kids and open play. Pros: Clean, Spacious, Friendly Cons: Big Screen on lanes, Small Bar Area more

Bowling is Bowling right?? 2/24/2004

Westgate lanes has a decent operation going. Im not impressed with the quality of the lanes or the equipment, but the service is good, and there usually isn't a wait. If you're using your own ball, I'd be sure you dont mind it getting messed up, ball returns eat ball up here. Lanes have creases across them which makes for some interesting spins. Its really the only lanes in South Austin, so unless you want to drive 20 miles this is your only choice. Price is ont he higher side too. Pros: Availibility, Location, Pro Shop Cons: , Lane Conditions, Price more

Good Bowling 5/19/2003

i live within walking distance to Westgate Lanes and love it...sure...some of the balls are a little old and need to be replaced but its an all in all good place to go bowling..the equipment is modern and have new ball return machines, shoes, and games..good atmosphere and great fun. I also find it a pretty good place to house leagues Pros: Inexpensive, Good Parking, Nice Facilities Cons: a few outdated balls, oldness of the inside, aged looks more

Who Cares? 2/20/2003

The lanes and equipment are horrible, but I don't care. I treat long time league bowlers, customers, and employees like second hand citizens, but I don't care. I'm rarely at Westgate, I don't care. Most people wouldn't let me run their Cool-Aid stand, I don't care. No, nobody cares. Why should I? Pros: Bartenders, Regular Customers, Comraderie Cons: Poor Management, Poor Ownership, Lane Maintenance more

Good House 8/22/2002

This house is great. Lane conditions are good and getting better. It is the only ""real"" house on the ""south"" side of town. The prices are reasonable and the wait is usually not bad. Much better than some of the monster houses up north that don't give a flip about the customer. Pros: Down South Cons: Consistency more

On my side of town! 8/8/2002

While the place does look a little dated, just like the others in town, it's the only one I know of South of Downtown. I'm not a connoisseur of bowling establishments and don't have much experience to compare against, however I feel Westgate is one of the better places to bowl in Austin. I'm just glad I don't have Showplace for an only local bowling house. The order in which I would visit places to bowl is Westgate/Dart (Joint preferred), Highland. Note: No mention of Showplace - wouldn't go there. Lanes here are slick. Frustratingly sometimes. As with most bowling houses, get there before the leagues start otherwise there's a long wait. Showplace may have spaces, but that's because it's lost so much popularity! Pros: Layout of seating Cons: Slick lanes more
