West Side Market

I love to support services with a long history and it is especially nice to support them when they have some of the best service in the city. The West Side Market is just such a place. Park on the street (metered) parking and zip in for some of the choicest sausage and specialty meat in the city. They also have a nice selection of fresh fish. As other reviewers have mentioned, the produce is quite nice. I like to stop by one day each week and pick up supplies for the week. Much of the produce is seasonable. Some of the vendors have unique items such as packaged bakery goods and freshly made, homemade-type potato chips. Not all of these items are available each week, so don't be disappointed if you can't pick them up every week. The shoppers add to the ambiance of the place. Take time to enjoy the experience. I go to the West Side Market about once a month. I really love it there. I get produce and bakery at a great price. It is important to examine the produce carefully because some is fresher than others. Also, the West Side Market is a great place to go for ethnic or specialty foods. Most things are reasonably price. If you go on a weekend, get there early because it gets crowded. more

Nearly 100 years old, the market still packs a dense crowd every weekend. Its shoppers know that among the hundreds of merchants, they can find the best meat available, and they can chat directly with the produce seller to find out what’s freshest that day.
