I have to agree with the "snobby" comment referring to the salespeople here. It's as though they can't be bothered with you, even if you're the only customer in the store (which ...

oh my, days @ weisshouse 10/19/2011

in the interest of space i will condense my experiences @ weisshouse (mine in an era prior to online reviews) after a cumulative series of mishaps, mostly staff related, i was given a $250 off coupon by the owner. for my NEXT purchase. how kind. for pittsburgh, weisshouse carries first class product. the path along the way can be altogether different. being committed to a customer's satisfaction should be pro-active not re-active. especially @ this price point. and ps, NEVER accept a furniture delivery appt scheduled for a friday afternoon. more

Beautiful store but snobby and unhelpful people 3/4/2011

I have to agree with the "snobby" comment referring to the salespeople here. It's as though they can't be bothered with you, even if you're the only customer in the store (which isn't uncommon) and I'VE PURCHASED FROM THEM BEFORE! One time I decided to take them up on their oft-pushed design consultation services and had Stan (one of the salespeople) come over to brainstorm window treatments. He went all through my house, never complimented anything (which is just poor manners, even if you think a house is ugly), took a few measurements, said he'd call me in a day or two, and I never heard from him again. If only Pgh had a decent selection of chic furniture stores Weisshouse would get its attitude checked. Truly, you're better off going to ABC Home in nyc. more

Something new every time I go there 12/14/2009

I too was very surprised to see the negative review below. I have been shopping at Weisshouse for three years now, since I first moved to Shadyside, and I've always found their staff incredibly helpful. They have a great knowledge, not just of the product, but also of design and how that product will fit in with the rest of my furnishings. That's the primary reason I shop there, as opposed to a typical chain store. Although, I also love that they sell a lot of items that you can't find anywhere else. Even when I'm not planning on making a purchase, I always enjoy strolling around the store to see what new things they've found. Pros: Knowledgable staff, Unique furnishings and accessories more

Always a great experience 8/11/2009

Stacy, This negative comment caught my attention. As a satisfied customer I feel the need to respond on your behalf. I have worked with the Weiss team for over 8 years, both our home in Pittsburgh as well as my summer place. My experience has been truly fantastic in all regards with Weisshouse and I look forward to collaborating on my next home (closing at the end of August!) -Jim more

DON'T SHOP HERE 10/7/2005

The employees are patronizing, snobbish and thoroughly rude, arrogant and do not know how to speak to people nicely. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
By far, the only store in Pittsburgh where one can buy a book on Star Wars' cooking recipes, a belt made from recycled tires and bottle caps and a sofa, loveseat and queen-sized bed all in one trip. If Weisshouse were a theatrical production, it would assuredly be off-Broadway. Way off Broadway. Weisshouse specializes in the unique, the unusual, and the most bizarre of high-class home furnishings. Weathered, antique cabinets sit next to plush designer chairs and finished coffee tables. Every piece of furniture is it's own intricate piece of art, each slightly different and remarkable.

    The Attitude
Weisshouse is sophisticated in a kitschy, colorful way. There's a playfulness and smart sense of humor to almost every item in the store, from the eggbeaters with plastic duck-shaped handles to the eyebrow-raising books on the shelf like "The Bad Girls' Guide to the Open Road" and "Drinking, Smoking and Screwing." All this clever haberdashery is juxtaposed next to designer Donna Karen candles and scented soaps, which is why Weisshouse is so darn out of the ordinary.
