Great, except . . . 5/15/2007

the seafood department. This is a really good market, but the seafood department is lacking a bit. No wild salmon (even though it was season), very pricey. Way too much farmed w/color added. The fish monger was not comfortable with dividing up a large portion of fish. I didn't want a whole pound, but that is what I got. He also didn't know when the fish was shipped (how fresh it really was). It is an amazing store, but the seafood department needs to catch up. more

Busy Store, Great Parking 6/26/2006

I moved here from Ashburn a few years ago and was greatly dissappointed at the grocery stores in the area: old carts, poor selection and produce. It takes some time to get used to the new layout, but once you do it's great. My first time was a bit overwhelming w/ the new layout and trains chugging over head, but they've got most everything. Every so often though, they are missing something I'd like. There always seems to be a shortage of Gerber Veggie Crackers. I guess that's the price of a busy store. The workers are always busy re-stocking and sometimes leave carts in high traffic areas thoguh. But I do LOVE the underground parking. Wonderful when it's raining or hot. Oh and the customer service is wonderful. Everyone is very helpful...ok, most everyone. There's always someone who's having a bad day. more

Can't get enough of Wegman's 4/29/2006

I forever abandoned Giant when Wegman's came to Northern Va. Their staff is excellent, helpful and knowledgable. Their cashiers are not mean & grumpy like at Giant. Their prepared foods are excellent (though pricey, at least the quality is outstanding), and the produce section is fantastic. No limp vegetables or mushy fruit. I find their prices to be very competitive or better than the other major chains in the area. more

Huge store with great choices. 4/15/2006

I was excited when this store opened last year in Fairfax. Besides being a regular grocery store, it also has food you can eat in the store at tables. It has a great organic/health food selection. I have never gone wrong with any of the meat I have bought there; I especially like the chicken and steaks. The fruit and vegetable selection is great too and there are always some kind of exotic fruits to buy. I am not into olives but there is a huge olive bar. The cheese selection is great too. more

Very good selection, a little overwhelming 4/7/2006

Wegman's has a wonderful selection of cheeses, breads, meat and seafood, and baked goods. The cheese department has a wide variety of brands and a well informed staff to help with the selection. They almost always have a sample, so make sure you have some room to nibble when you arrive. The breads smelled amazingly fresh and were appetizing. The meat and seafood selection was incredible, with an extremely knowledgeable staff, who can help you with all of your cooking questions. The baked goods are delicious, lots of cakes, cookies, and other treats. My son loves the peanut butter cookies and the sugar cookies that come in playful shapes and colors. The store is a bit overwhelming at first. It took me a few visits before I felt comfortable. The deli department was the only slight disappointment to me. I prefer the meat and sliced cheese from Harris Teeter. The service is excellent, though, with lots of staff present and eager to help. There are delicious samples everywhere, so as I said earlier, be prepared to be tempted. We are still working our way through many things. We have not tried the Asian food bar, though I've heard it is very tasty. Enjoy, it is a world unto itself. more

Not the usual supermarket 8/25/2005

It's like going to the Safeway plus the Whole Foods plus the Sutton Place at one time. They have all the usual stuff (and a better selection at that) plus a good health food area plus a huge "marketplace" with ready-to-eat, butcher, fish, bakery, and pastry area. To top it off, there's a big Asian food bar (the "wokery"), pizza shop, sushi shop, sandwhich shop, soup shop, and more -- just buy what you want and eat it upstairs. We treat a visit to the Wegman's as an outing. We have more fun than the Safeway or Giant and stock up on items (especially ethic and natural foods) that we can't get at Safeway/Giant. However, the story is poorly laid out the fact that aisles are split in the middle means that you'll find many traffic accidents. It's huge, crowded, and generally overwhelming. Some items appear in multiple areas, depending on brand or style. Want yogurt? That's in the dairy. Want soy yougurt? That's in the special soy-only fridge at the other side of the store. Want frozen Chinese dinners? Try both the frozen food area and the special "gourmet" frozen food area. And, guess what? These areas aren't next to each other... more

BIG overwhelming grocery store with good cheeses 7/29/2005

My husband and I went to Wegman’s last week for the first time and will only return if we need a speciality cheese. We found that it was way too overwhelming and over priced. Yes, some things are inexpensive such as milk, eggs, and produce, but most of the items are about comparable to Giant. We were impressed with the unbelievable cheese department but there were no samples. I couldn’t figure out what cheeses to buy and try because nothing was being sampled. I could never go in here with a toddler and get out in 1 hour. Plus, the cashier told me that the average person spends $200 during a visit! So watch out! more

Wegman's 7/28/2005

I started going to this grocery store when Safeway was remodeling. It was a new and I loved it. They have a variety of products and the prices were great especially the sale prices. The store was clean and it had a train that goes around its ceiling that my daughter loves. The employees are very helpful and easy to find. The only negatives things is that alot of people were there at all hours because it was so new. And the last couple of times I have been their seems to be less variety in things such as the deli breads and pies and stuff like that. They were out of alot of stuff and some things I bought were bad as an example I bought a bag of carrot sticks in water and when I opened them the next day they smelled like vinegar. ewe. more
