  • The Background
    Elizabeth Schellenberg dreamt of building a Swedenborgian church in Palos Verdes in 1928, and 20 years later the Wayfarers Chapel was born on a bluff overlooking a peninsula. The uniquely beautiful property boasts fragrant rose gardens, majestic redwoods and, most famously, a chapel designed by architect Lloyd Wright, Frank Lloyd Wright's son.

    The Appeal
    The views from atop the bluff are amazing. Off the beaten path, in quiet surroundings, the chapel's a perfect last stop for a day trip to the Palos Verdes tide pools. By itself, the structure is an amazing glass-and-wood feat of engineering. The pitched-glass ceiling merges the surrounding trees with the interior to create an uplifting feeling.
