better than many of the more fancy places! 5/16/2012

I am a rather "extreme" exerciser, and my main requirement is that the gym would allow me to keep in the great shape I am in. For people like me this is a very good facility. The machines are working - not best conditions but close enough. Many of them are rather old - and this is GREAT, because most of the new machines I use in "better" gyms are fancy but not less useful for people who are really into keeping in shape, not just to passing time and telling their doctor that sure, they exercise. I was actually looking for those machines. And usually I can use the machines I was planning to use - there are enough of them. No need to pre - sign and no time limits. There are many other things offered that I don't use but others do and seem enjoy: classes, swimming pool, water exercise, spinning. And although I myself aspire to high level of fitness, and even in gyms where the population is young and ambitious I don't feel humbled, I actually like it that the crowd is diverse in age and lev more

dusappointing 3/2/2012

l think that this the most outdated sports center l have been to, old equipments, old carpets, they are trying to keep clean , but if everything is old, it is not possible. While doing plates it is all dust around.\r l also had a very bad experience with one of the guests. While he was talking to others, he was still trying to keep the equipments for himself and did not let me use it for even 1 minute, he even did not continue using the equipment when l left for another one and as an excuse he said he was doing his routine as if l was doing something else, and he behaved as if he had all the rights to not allow me to use the equipment. He behaved like that mainly because l was a female and he was older. l would expect a person of his age to be kinder. Anyway, meanwhile the trainers around did not intervene and the manager was invisible and did not bother to speak and say sorry at all. \r This place is a complete disaster in terms of customer satisfaction. They only value those customers more

small potatoes but good ones 5/6/2010

While WOAC isn't the go-to for hardbodies and those with super stylish workout clothes, all the basics are intact: cardio machines, weights, a solid series of classes and racquetball courts, pool too. And more: if you have small kids, a battery of gym workers will watch your kid(s) for up to two hours for NOTHING if you have a gold membership ($72 a month is what I pay). That is a HUGE benefit and enough to get me out the door. Here's the other plus: the staff is nice, steady and always smiling and kind, both to me and the kids. The place may not be super slick but then again it's less a Wal-Mart and more a homespun, family type place. more

Unless it's free... 10/28/2008

Unless this is a free or reduced price gym, I would not bother. It is small, dark and has old equipment. The swimming pool was not maintained well and I query whether it would pass a health inspection. I swam in it once and found the experience disgusting. \r \r I think you can find a better place for the money. more

Convenient but not spectacular 10/27/2008

Waverley Oaks Athletic Club is a convenient gym if you work in the nearby Waltham / Belmont areas and aren't looking for anything special. The main cardio room is a bit dark and the layout of all the machines in a circle facing into the room I found a bit odd. Adding more mirrors to the walls and having the machines face the mirrors so you can watch and perfect your form while working out would be a much better concept. WOAC felt more like a larger version of a standard run-of-the-mill corporate workout room than a state-of-the-art athletic club. I'd recommend it to someone looking to get in some basic cardio and strength training if the location is convenient but for serious lifters and trainers, I'd say definitely try-before-you-buy! more
