The staff I have dealt with in the shop are a bit rude when it comes to music. Snot-nosed, rather, know-it-alls, if you will. If you likr big name music, mean anything that is pro...

Cool place, but disappointing food/service 7/3/2009

The nurse and I stopped by the Southpark Meadows Waterloo location shortly after noon today. It took about four minutes before anyone noticed we were standing there, waqiting to be seated, but the nurse met some kids she knew from working as a school nurse, so time went by quickly. We were seated, and our waitress gave us our menus, then drinks, in a timely manner. The place was maybe 65% full. After ordering our meals (sirloin tacos for her, Kobe burger for me) we waited. And waited. And waited 30 minutes before I flagged our waitress down and asked her if we were going to get to eat. We got an ""I said we were busy"", and she went to check on our meal. She came back, withour food, and told me that ""they were finishing your burger"", and that she hoped the people outside ""don't see me bringing you your food first.""\r \r All I can say, honey, and I hope you read this, is: I hope their food was hot, because mine wasn't.\r \r It would have been a good burger if she hadn't have lied to me. My nurse's food, according to her, was fine. Too bad I cannot in good faith recommend Waterloo at Southpark Meadows. Especially when the hired help lies to me. And honey, you're lucky I didn't have a quarter on me, because you would have gotten a 4-cent tip instead of the 79 cents the nurse gave you. Pros: Cool atmosphere Cons: Poor service, lukewarm food, dishonest staff more

Good food...shame about the waitstaff. 4/22/2009

I went to the Southpark Meadows location during happy hour for drinks and dinner. I love the veggie sandwich. The person I was with and I ordered a couple of the coctails that are discounted for happy hour. Both were BAD, BAD, BAD. But we didn't them send back. Just chalked it up to lesson learned and ordered beer the next round. Got the bill and noticed we were charged twice the amount advertised in the menu for one of the bad drinks. We pointed this out to the waitress who replied blankly to us that we had ordered the large. Huh? We were pointing to the happy hour menu when ordering and didn't even know there was a large. We told her we hadn't asked for a large and didn't even know there was one, but it seemed so clearly to be something she had done intentionally (although I have no way of knowing). I call shenanigans. And stupid shenanigans at that because we just subtracted the price difference from her tip. It was really obnoxious behavior though, especially considering the drinks were not that palatable. The experience really soured me on this place. Pros: Great veggie sandwich and tatertots Cons: waitstaff shenanigans and bad mixed drinks more

bad chili 1/24/2008

I have enjoyed many a breakfast at the Waterloo Ice on Burnet Rd as it is near my office. The other day I noticed on the Waterloo sign ""try our chili"". What a mistake! Has the manager tried it lately. He or she needs to. I would be happy to drop off a recipe cause your chili is terrible. more

Tuesday Night Band 11/19/2007

If you find yourself out on a Tuesday evening, go to Waterloo on 38th St. and listen to the Will Dunlap band. It makes for a fun night out for food and entertainment all under one roof. The salad with apples and walnuts is delicious. Sit back with a Black & Tan brewski and enjoy the show. The gig starts at around seven o'clock. Pros: Live Music Scene, especially on Tuesday nights with Will Dunlap Band more

when you want something and a beer 11/18/2006

original burgers- bluecheese and peppercorn etc. pretty good, not fussy, try it. the veggie burgers are pretty exceptional as are the salads. Pros: veggie burger Cons: nothing stand-outish more

eh, mediocre 11/14/2005

I was trying to show my houston friends some local austin flavor so we went here when Z tejas was too busy... had a combo plate -- baked potato, salad, mexican corn soup. the potato was ok (how do you mess up a potato anyway?) but the salad was watery, the ranch mayonnaisey, and the corn chowder tepid and bland. I will not go here again and will not recommend it at all. I'm just sorry I didnt go to whole foods across the street -- yeah they have it in houston but i can almost guarantee the food would have been better. Pros: has beer, close to cute shops Cons: food, atmosphere, food more

the best of the best! 2/3/2003

Make you feel little 1/4/2003

The staff I have dealt with in the shop are a bit rude when it comes to music. Snot-nosed, rather, know-it-alls, if you will. If you likr big name music, mean anything that is produced by a big label or well known band, the place is not for you. Goin in there is a bit like Romper Room. more

Where Else? 12/6/2002

Waterloo has the best vinyl collection I can find. They also specialize in rare, hard-to-find albums. Their new and used collection is extensive and when i cannot find an album anywhere i know i can go to waterloo and find it there. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Nobody can compete. Don't start somewhere else and find yourself at waterloo. save your self a few trips and start at waterloo. They have everything. Pros: good selection, friendly staff more

A PLATER FULL OF TUNES 11/14/2002

PROBABLY THE BEST RECORD/CD STORE I HAVE EVER BEEN IN. VERY WELL ORGANIZED, GREAT SELECTION, KNOWLEDGABLE STAFF. YOU COULD SPEND ALL DAY IN THIS PLACE. YOU WILL FIND TITLES YOU DIDNT NOW EXISTED. IF THEY DONT HAVE IT AND CANT GET IT YOU DONT NEED IT! Pros: SELECTION, ORGANIZATION, SERVICE Cons: LIMITED PARKING, CROWDED ON SATURDAY more

Less hassles than big chains 8/17/2002

I love waterloo. I cant say it enough. They are knowlegeble about all genres of music without being overtly cocky to the typical customer. I like the fact also they dont ""hover"" over or ""push"" you like they do at the ""chain/superstore"" music shops. Pros: Excellent Staff, Huge Selection Cons: Parking can be a pain more

The best in town 8/13/2002

The staff is knowledgeable, the music they spotlight is always cutting-edge, weird, or just plain great, and the selection is outstanding. Why shop anywhere else? You can even order online from Waterloo. They are the best music store in a five-state radius. more
