HUGE disappointment. After a cocktail & dinner I order a glass of wine which was absolutely disgusting... Not only does the waiter agree the wine is not good but goes on to say al...

Bad Service, Disiniterested Ownership 1/16/2007

Went there with family on MLK day. We all ordered dine about town menu. The food was good, my steak outstanding. It all broke down when the time for the check came. Pros: Decent Steak. Cons: Idioitic Service, disinterested owner more

BEST CRAB CAKES IN THE UNIVERSE!!!!! 1/13/2007

I've searched the world for the BEST crab cakes and I found them at The Waterfront! Crispy with a little zing and TONS of crab. They ROCK!!!!! I have had lots of other great dishes here but crab cakes are my thing. The view of the bay from this place is outrageous and it is a great place to eat and take in the San Francisco scene. Friendly staff and very pretty restaurant. You will love it! Pros: EXCELLENT CRAB CAKES, THE BEST BAY VIEW ANYWHERE!!! Cons: I'M GETTING FAT FROM EATING THERE SO OFTEN!!! more

Awesome! 1/6/2007

Mesmerizing view of San Francisco Bay and the bridge, awesome food! I am still dreaming of the Bouillabaisse and the Melting Leek Risotto with seared scallops. The best meal I've ever had anywhere! I would suggest reservations because they were really busy, but don't miss this place. I've become a regular and whenever I introduce friends and clients to The Waterfront Restaurant they rant and rave. The waitors are on the ball. You will love this place! Pros: Fabulous food and best view in all of San Francisco Cons: Can get busy-make reservations more

WHAT A GREAT RESTAUARANT! 1/4/2007

I HAD GUESTS VISITING FROM OUT OF STATE AND MY HUSBAND AND I WANTED TO GIVE THEM THE ULTIMATE SAN FRANCISCO DINING EXPERIENCE. THIS PLACE WAS IT. THE BAY VIEW TAKES YOUR BREATH AWAY AND THE FOOD IS EXTRAORDINARY. THEY WERE JAMMED PACKED SO WE HAD TO WAIT A BIT BUT NOT LONG, AND THE HOSTESS TOOK GREAT CARE OF US. DON'T MISS THE ESCOLAR WITH CRAB MASHED POTATOES...TO DIE FOR! THEY HAD A LOBSTER POTPIE SPECIAL THAT WAS INCREDIBLE, AND THE CHOWDER WAS THE BEST ANY OF US HAD EVER TASTED. WE'VE BEEN BACK SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANYTHING BUT GREAT SERVICE AND INCREDIBLE FOOD. TRULY ONE OF THE BEST RESTAURANTS IN SAN FRANCISCO. MY NIECE IS PLANNING HER WEDDING RECEPTION THERE. ENJOY! Pros: AWESOME FOOD, SPECTACULAR BAY VIEWS more

Excellent food and service!!! 1/3/2007

We attended a company party there and the food was so fabulous I decided to have my birthday celebration there as well! Every detail was first rate and the staff took great care of us. First of all the restaurant itself is gorgeous with a stunning view of San Francisco Bay. You are literally on the water! The crab cakes are to die for as is the lobster risotto. We had a party of 63 people and they all raved...several of my guests had dietary concerns and they were so accommodating. I can't imagine a better dining experience! Pros: Food, Service, Bay Views, Parking more

Food good but service was terrible. Also don't even think about planning an event here.... 11/17/2006

The food here is good however you will pay lots of $$$ for terrible service and a snotty attitude. Also, a few months back I contacted this place to get pricing for a small private event and they seemed totally unorganized and the I had trouble getting the so called event planner / manager to call me back. The view here is great, the restaurant looks really nice but the service ruins it... Pros: Good Good Cons: BAD SERVICE more

With all the choices in SF, why go here? 10/31/2006

Seriously, I think this restaurant takes down unfavorable reviews. Went here once for New Year's Eve. Terrible experience. Hostess was extremely rude. Treated us like we were an intrusion. Long wait for food and had a/c blowing when it was probably 60 degrees INSIDE on the second floor. Us diners were wearing our coats! Save your money and go elsewhere. I don't believe they have the concept of what customer service is all about. Pros: Great view of the Bay Bridge Cons: Poor service more

Avoid at all costs! 10/22/2006

Seriously, I think this restaurant takes down unfavorable reviews. Went here once for New Year's Eve. Terrible experience. Hostess was extremely rude. Thought she was all that, but she wasn't. Long wait for food and had a/c blowing when it was probably 60 degrees INSIDE on the second floor. Us diners were wearing our coats! Save your money and go elsewhere. Is it really worth it to pay for bad service??? Pros: Good view Cons: Rude hostess, slow service more

I'd rather eat at McDonalds 9/30/2006

We were seated immediately upon entering the restaurant. Our waitor was attentative and informative. Unfortunately, the food was sub-par. The calamari was too salty and the breading was flaky, while the sauce did not compliment the appetizer. The overly-priced crab cakes were not seasoned enough and included a grocery-type thousand island dressing (not much culinary creativity went into that). Moving onto the entrees - mixed seafood was tasteless, unedible, and salmon was dry. The texture of the monk fish was overdone, and shrimp would have been better left off the dish. The only shade of highlight that can be expressed is the escolar. The escolar dish was good, but not $26 good. At the end of the night, we decided to continue our dining elsewhere. Pros: Great way to throw away money Cons: Food. Cannot be classified as fine-dining or anywhere close. more

Nice view! 8/29/2006

Definitely one of the nicest views around here, but only when it's not foggy. The food and the service was awesome! We went to Il Fornaio for Valentine's Day one year and we were so disappointed. My bf ordered ravioli and got 4 pcs of it. I ordered scallops and got 4 pieces of that too. We were hesitant to go to Waterfront to pay so much money for little food. Little did we know, their portions were generous with good service. We've gone back every year since. My bf ordered steak and could barely finish it. Our waiter was polite and very enthusiastic. We'll keep coming back for more! more

Awful service 7/4/2006

I was very disappointed with the service at this restaurant. When I made reservations the hostess was extremely rude. I asked what the corkage fee was and after she told me $20, I started to thank her for the information but she hung up on me in the middle of my sentence! Pros: The views Cons: Service more

Not worth your money 5/20/2006

The steak was not as rare as I had requested. The sides are extremely unoriginal and tasteless. The dessert was not even worth stomach space. I ordered the almond cake by the way: a slab of just, cake, with a few chopped up (not even fresh/sweet) strawberries. The view is nice.. I guess? Service was average. I won't be coming here again. Pros: view Cons: food more

Disapointing Mothers Day 5/13/2006

I had heard that the Waterfront was not that great, but thought ""how bad could it be? We certainly found out! Our waitress had to find out if there was iced coffee. They removed the first course along with the silverware. We had ask for silverware! We had to ask for pepper for the mediocre meal. Three of seven choices for desert were no longer available. When asked what the Sorbet of the Day was, she had to go ask. The staff bumped into our mother, one of the staff behind the open kitchen was angry and screaming to himself, and the overall energy was that of a newly opened restaurant with first time staffers. I don't know how the Waterfront exists in a city like S.F. more

Why wait 11/13/2005

This was my first visit to this restaurant in a number of years. We arrived at about 11:40, and were greeted by a very gracious hostess and prmptly seated with a great view of the water. Things went downhill quickly from there. The wait between each contact with our waiter was very long. After asking how we wanted the food to arrive, he got it completely backward, my entree was served and I had to track him down for a fork. Most of the more thatn 2 plus hours was spent waiting. There was a 25 minute wait between the salad and soup (which was tepid when it arrived). and another 15 minutes after we finished before we could get the check. Great view, but I can't think of another reason to visit this restaurant. Pros: Friendly staff, View Cons: so-so food, Untrained? waiter more

AVOID, TRUST ME 9/27/2005

Even though everyone seemed to think it was a horrible choice, I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. Worst mistake Ive done lately regarding food. All of our food was either cold, bland or both. The calamari appetizer was cold, both meals were cold. Ridiculous! My roommate was moving to LA so I chose a place with a view. MISTAKE. Don't waste your time or money! more

NOT good for groups of 10 or more 7/16/2005

I made a birthday reservation for 20 of my closest friends. We get there and see they made two separate tables which made conversation pretty difficult. The manager wasn't professional and the waiters were absent minded. Didn't have a sense of who ordered what. In fact our waiter disappeared on us and someone filled in for him. Didn't have the courtesy to let us know. The graces were: bathroom was clean, menu had variety, and the food was sweet. Does it justify the $1000 pricetag? No, I wouldn't do it again. Pros: Food, Menu Cons: Poor Service, Value more

Love this place 5/10/2005

You can't beat The Watefront, just by it's location alone. The food is also great. more

Rude and Arrogant 2/2/2005

I eat the world over and had one of the worst service experiences ever last month at a corporate event there. We rented the entire upstairs and spent thousands of dollars, when I asked the waiter for my steak ""medium rare"" he grunted and put a large ""X"" on his checksheet. Don't waste a single dollar on this place, they deserve to end up on the heap of bankrupt restaurants that occur every year. more
