Best Place for Mini Vacation! 2/20/2009

Each time I go (several times a week) I feel like I'm setting forth on a mini-vacation -- the fresh air and peaceful setting -- the gorgeous wading and other birds, the bunnies, gators, turtles, etc! - fantastic. So lucky to live nearby. Don't miss it! more

Alligator and Bird Watching at Wakodahatchee 12/7/2006

This preserve was created by the local government by adding filtered water to an unused space to create a marsh area. You will want to bring a camera to see the local species- birds, alligators, turtles, fish, etc. You'll see tons of different species of birds (bring the zoon lens for best effect) as you walk along the 1 mile raised wooden pathways. Placards detail information about local species and the park. The park is open 7 days, dawn till dusk. Located on the east side of Jog road, north of Atlantic Avenue. This place can get crowded with birthwatchers but it is a short easy walk just packed with wildlife. Check it out! No ADMISSION CHARGE! Website: http://www.pbcwater.com/wakodahatchee/ more

A Birdwatcher's Paradise 8/16/2005

Wakodahatchee Wetlands is a Paradise and a favorite of Bird Photographers. A three-quarter mile elevated board walk winds many ponds . Frequently seen are Moorhens, Blackbirds Herons, Hawks, sometimes an occasional eagle. Hummingbirds and Alligators are visible. Dusk is a great time to visit for birds returning to the wetlands for the night. The wetlands are open from dawn to dusk all year. The wetlands are maintained by The Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department. There is NO admission charge. Since, I live nearby, I go everyday for my morning constitutional walk. In the summer go early to avoid the heat. Wear a hat and strong sun glasses more
