Don't go for the service or food 9/19/2009

They spent some money on the restaurant but not on the staff. Too bad, the location is great for the neighborhood, the facility is beautiful, and the staff is ...well…clueless. \r \r I fear this restaurant will at best limp-a-long, or most probably just go under at some point-in-time. The main draw is the live music, which when that is not happening the poor service is exposed along with the mediocre high-priced food.\r \r It seems as though this restaurant as well as many others these days have gotten lazy in thinking about the idea of creating a nice environment for their customers and are more focused on making it easy for the staff. I don’t know about you, but when I got out to eat I’d like to have a nice quiet meal with my guest, versus being put right next to the only other table with people at it in the restaurant, where with concrete floors I am not going to miss a word of what is said at then next table. \r \r Most restaurants used to leave an empty table between each of the set of customers so that they’d have some peace and quiet. Then when the restaurant was filling up, and the noise level was rising, they’d fill in those empty tables, and if less people came later then those late arrivers would have some peace as the first tables left and spaces again developed between them.\r \r And while we are at it, what happened to the waiters being able to pronounce the menu if some of the words are in Italian vs saying, I am from Michigan and I don’t know? \r \r Of course its always a great meal when you hear the staff telling the other customers all night long what they can’t do. Hello…what happened to service. \r \r Now I come to the food. I had the Insalatina mista a salad that was advertized as having Organic arucola, tomato, onions, romaine, extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I received only the Romaine, there were no onions, and the basalmic vinegar somehow was replaced with some wine like vinegar. We ordered Bruschetta that was suppose to come with Chopped fresh tomatoes, garlic, extra virgin olive oil and basil, yet our arrived with an Italian sausage spaghetti sauce and parsley on burned bread? Lastly we ordered Agnello con carciofini e cipolle verdi - Baby lamb braised and slow cooked with baby artichokes and leeks served on a bed of parmigiano risotto. When I asked if the risotto was risotto, one of the waiters said it was Italian rice from a box. Oh boy sounds soooo appealing! I may go back for the music, but never for the food again.\r Pros: Nice looking place Cons: Service is clueless more

The best Italian this side of the Atlantic 9/27/2006

From the moment you walk into Leccabaffi you feel like your at home, this ambience is created by the plethora of wonderful smells that immediately excite your senses. Michael Lepore is a master of the art of fine dining and it shows in his delightful dishes. One dish that stands out among the rest is his perfectly grilled calimari. All in all I would give this restaurant a 10! Pros: Ambience, Food, Service Cons: Location more

A Genuine Experience 5/17/2004

This restaurant is very close to having it all. It is an intimate, dimly lit, romantic Italian restaurant with real food...not the white bread plastic stuff that passes for Italian food in chain restaurants. There are no breaded chicken patties of unknown origin and no thick canned red sauce that goes into every dish. It has an intriguing menu and a good wine list that isn't overpriced. It also has a difficult to pin down quality: it just feels right. From the big display of cold antipasto to the musician in the corner to the respectful patrons, it hits all the senses to produce the right result. Pros: food, ambience, decor more
