Virginia Beach Amphitheater 8/15/2010

8/15/2010 - our first visit to the Virginia Beach Amphitheater to see the 3rd rescheduling of the Brooks and Dunn concert. After waiting in line for 30 minutes to get to the gate, we are rudely told that we can't bring in a chair that is over 9"" in height to sit on the lawn. I looked it up on their web site trying to determine what type of chair to bring and could not find it, it's in the very very small print and at the end of many other things you can do. We didn't stay, I'm not sitting on the ground for 3 hours for any concert. WE WILL NEVER COME BACK to this venue. What a waste of money and my time. I will surely pass this around to all my friends and anyone who will listen. What difference should it make what type a chair someone sits in your paying to sit on the lawn. more

Corporate America Greed and the Recession 6/21/2010

If anyone hasn't noticed, we're in the middle of recession! People don't have fun money to spend during a recession ... at least not on concerts. Verizon stopped having you pay per car and now have you pay $6 bucks per person to get in. In addition to waiting in line to swap your voucher out for a ticket, you have to pay them more money. That wasn't the biggest deal, but the cost of food and drinks is astronomical. You can't bring your own, so you're stuck paying between $10-$11 for a beer and $6 for a piece of 6"" round pizza. The enviroment has become so controlled, it isn't a concert anymore. I feel like I'm in prison or some middle Eastern country. People need to boycott buying any stuff from them and see if they get a message that we're fed up with getting raked over the coals at every turn. Pros: Clean and Organized Cons: Too Expensive more

Concert was great, but there are definitely a few problems........ 7/28/2008

We saw Linkin Park on July 26, 2008. The show was great (Linkin Park was AWESOME) but, the way we were routed out of the concert was a REAL problem. I DO NOT understand why they route people away from a 6 lane road (Princess Anne Road) out towards Salem Road (a two lane dark road in the middle of nowhere). I tried to make a U-turn to go back towards Dam Neck Road to avoid getting lost (since there are really no signs explaining how to get back there when you get routed that way) and the policeman that was directing traffic out flagged me down. He was not a nice person at all. I wasn't intentionally trying to break the law, I just don't know my way around Va. Beach enough to not get lost out in the middle of nowhere. I tried to explain that, and all I got was ""I smell alcohol (which was one hell of a magic trick since NOBODY in the car had had anything to drink except cool, clear water ALL DAY) and ""Don't you know how to read signs"". Once I got up the road a ways, people were litterally making U-turns in the middle of a two lane road!!!!!! After the expense of the tickets and then getting totally ripped off for ANYTHING you buy to drink in the amphitheatre, you would think they could come up with a better way. I just don't get it. And, I didn't appreciate getting lost in the middle of nowhere, insufficient signs to let me know where I'm going (I live in Maryland, not Va. Beach and I can't be the only one that doesn't live there that goes to concerts), and then getting accused of driving under the influence. I think I will give Baltimore my money next time. Too bad nobody that has any authority to do anything about this reads these reviews. Maybe they will if people stop attending. more

GREAT STAFF,MAKE SURE YOU ARRIVE EARLY 7/26/2008

I SAW THE COUNTING CROWS AND MAROON 5 JULY 25th AND THE SHOW WAS AMAZING!THE ACOUSTICS WERE MUCH BETTER THAN I REMEMBER THEM BEING BEFORE.THE CROWS REALLY PUT ON THE BEST SHOW OF THEIR CAREER!THE FACT THAT BANDS CANNOT PLAY AFTER 11PM REALLY PUT A HALT TO SUCH A GREAT SHOW.BEING THAT THEIR SET STARTED BEHIND SCHEDULE,THE COUNTING CROWS HAD TO CUT THEIR SET SHORT.THE BAND APOLOGIZED TO THE CROWD WHICH SEEMED TO BE VERY UNDERSTANDING.I'LL DEFINITELY GO BACK WHEN THEY RETURN.THE STAFF WAS VERY COURTEOUS AND AND THE EVENING FLOWED WITHOUT A HITCH.THE AMPHITHEATER CONTINUES TO BE A PRIME SPOT FOR A SUMMER EVENING CONCERT! Pros: GREAT ACOUSTICS Cons: CANT PLAY AFTER 11pm more

Great concert and atmosphere 7/19/2008

My wife, kids and I attended the Kenny Chesney concert on 7/17/08 and had a great time. We read the reviews on this site and were concerned about the traffic and strictness on tailgating but found neither to be a problem. Yes there was traffic, which you should expect with a popular artist like Kenny but we were on the parking lot with no problem and off the lot in about 1/2 hour. I was surprised and impressed that there was a car pool lot with NO CHARGE for at least four people in a vehicle. The police came by and told anyone with beer cans or bottles to put the beer in a cup but they were cool. Great experience and we are looking forward to next year. Pros: Great admosphere Cons: Staff dealth with complaints more

horrible mess to get in and out of 6/24/2008

my first and only experience with this facility was horrible. there is only 1 way in and out. we had tickets to billy joel on saturday 06/21/08 but were 30 minutes late due to the massive traffic jam outside the only entrance. we sat in traffic for approximately 40 minutes to move 1 mile. if you plan to attend anything here, be sure to allow youself at least an extra 60 minutes or you'll be sorry. more

They got our money this time, but not anymore 6/23/2008

This was our first and the last time we went to Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheater. \r We bought lawn tickets for Billy Joel. Even we left 2 hours before the concert, we were late 15 min. Princess Anne was jammed with the concert traffic- bad organization and too many tickets were sold, obviously someone was very greedy to keep selling those tickets, even this big place has the limits - it was so crowded - we could not to find a place to sit on the lawn - even at the very far end - where you can't hear and only see big screen TV from the distance about half mile, some people went behind the roped area on the lawns, and security were taking them out. \r Beer was $10 a can - rip off, Parking lots were all filled in and it's a long walk to the Amphitheater. Crowd was 70% drunk and we left the concert one hour before it ended to avoid drunk drivers and the mess on the parking lots. When we went back to the parking lot, there were no police, and a very little light on parking - we felt very unsafe, I am very sorry for the people who stay on this concert to the very end, guess it took them 3 to 4 hours to get out from the parking lot - it was only one little road out of this place. Worst experience we ever had . Even with the Billy Joel - it's not worth it!\r more

MISLEADING VENUE TIMES :( 10/7/2007

My husband & I were very exited to see a Sunday afternoon concert. We purchased tickets for the Brad Paisley concert today the day they went on sale. 1. We are big fans, 2. the date & time were good to be able to get a sitter, drive to Va Beach, catch a concert & be home at a decent time. We were EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED to find when we arrived at the venue that the concert time listed on the tickets (Sun, 10/7 @ 4:00 gates open, concert starts at 4:30pm) was INACCURATE! After entering into the facility and awaiting Taylor Swift & Rodney Atkins to begin the afternoon we found our the opening acts were not going on stage until 7pm. 3 HOURS after gates open?? After further inquiries with the staff, we learned Brad Paisley would not be on stage until approximately 9:00-9:30pm. We were hoping to be home in Richmond by 10pm. After all, we told our sitter we would be home by 10:30pm if traffic was bad. We had wonderful seats we paid handsomely for that we gave to a young couple that had lawn seats. After everything we returned home without seeing a single act. We were just sick thinking about the money we spent & lost because the Va Beach Amphitheater was not clear in venue times. $130.00 for 2 tickets to see one of our favorite artists, $60.00 in gas from Richmond to VA Beach & back, 6 bottle waters at $4.00 each=24.00 (it was 92 degrees in October) and a babysitter for 6 hours-$40.00. OVER $250.00 for 2 parents to waste on a day that was supposed to be a getaway....NOT PRICELESS. DISGUSTING!!!! Pros: nice facility Cons: INACCURATE VENUE TIMES more

Very Awesome !!! 8/1/2002

I love going to the Amphitheater for concerts, even when I have to sit on the lawn !!! I have seen maybe 25 concerts there since it opened and all of them have been great !!! I really like the fact that they have the widescreen TV's that you canview from the lawn seats !!! The security there keep things well under control, even when the kids up on the lawn start a 'Mosh Pit'. Security lets them Mosh until things start to get out of hand then they break it up... Pros: Shows, Security, Covered seating Cons: Gravel Parking Lot more

You Can See Them All 7/20/2002

No matter who you want to see, eventually they will come to the ampitheater. The concessions are expensive. more

nice venue 6/21/2002

I saw pearl jam here in 2000. it's a nice venue. just like most of the typical outdoor ampitheaters that have sprouted up in recent years. I was coming from out of town so I have to say it was pretty easy to find, signs directing to the venue were good, and parking surprisingly wasn't that bad. more
