GONE DOWNHILL IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS 4/23/2010

THE FIRST 4 TIMES WE WENT, WE HAD A PHENOMENAL EXPERIENCE...BUT THEN AGAIN, WE KEPT GETTING THE SAME WAITER. WE WENT BACK AGAIN 2 WEEKS AGO ON A SUNDAY AND GOT THIS NASTY OLD MAN FOR A WAITER. IGNORED US (CUZ WE WERE ONLY A TABLE OF 4) AND PROCEEDED TO FALL ALL OVER HIMSELF TO SERVE A LARGER TABLE. I UNDERSTAND HE WORKS ON TIPS. BUT WOULDN'T IT HAVE MADE MORE SENSE TO GET US WHAT WE NEEDED FIRST SINCE THERE WERE ONLY 4 OF US AND GOT US OUT OF THERE SO HE COULD CONCENTRATE ON HIS BIGGER TABLE??? NOPE...WE GOT IGNORED.\r \r THE MEDIUM SAUCE IS THE BEST THEY HAVE TO OFFER. THE PASTA DISHES ARE EITHER WAAAYYYY AL DENTE OR COMPLETELY OVER COOKED.\r \r I'LL JUST BUY THE SAUCE AND MAKE THE PASTA AT HOME. Pros: GREAT SAUCE IN A BOTTLE Cons: BAD SERVICE, OVER-PRICED more

Wow, has this place gone downhill 9/19/2008

So I started dating a new girl and when she mentioned going to Little Italy I figured I would impress her with my favorite restaurant there. I have loved the sauce there for so long and have introduced so many to this place but has it ever changed. All she wanted as fettucini with hot sauce, the waiter said they could not give her that. Why, pasta and sauce in an Italian restaurant?? When we convinced him this should be do-able he then took my order of shrimp parm and left with a scared look like he was not sure how he could pull this off. When we got our dishes the pasta was overcooked, the hot sauce was not hot and the shrimp were the smallest ones i ever had in this dish. Nobody brought us bread and when we finally got someone's attention we were delivered bread that was cold and not even Italian bread and was brought without butter or oil to put on it. I was terribly embarassed by this meal and vowed to find a new go-to place in Little Italy.. more

Great Deserts!!! 7/6/2008

\r \r \r From the top! We just happened upon this place while cruising out of China Town into Little Italy. The inside is pure retro! Service was fast and very friendly. The restaurant is located on a corner so we sat near a window to people watch. We ordered off the lunch menu - meatball sub (it could easily feed 2) and fried shrimp with pasta sauce. Both dishes were fresh and satisfying. Bread with a flavored olive oil was brought before the meal ? the best we had during our 7-day trip. Even the Parmesan cheese in the shaker on the table was fresh. At the end of our meal, our waiter brought out a tray that held at least a dozen tasty looking treats. Had I seen the desert tray I might have just skipped the lunch course!\r From tarts, to rich chocolate cake, and to traditional cheesecake. They even had 2 flavors of sherbet an orange and lemon, each served inside a cored out orange or lemon! That was a yummy delight and treat! \r \r Pros: Great Value for Delicious Food! more

Pricey, disgusting Italian 6/28/2008

My husband and I ate here last week for our second anniversary. We had been dying to eat here for a long time since we love and use their tomato sauce frequently. What a disappointment! I ordered a lobster tail with mussels, clams and shrimp over a bed of linguine and my husband ordered shrimp parm. The two of us took a few bites and just looked at each other in disgust. How could their tomato sauce be so gross when the stuff they sell in a jar in any supermarket tastes so good is beyond me. My lobster tail look like a shrimp cut in half and my husband said his dish was the worst shrimp parmesan he ever had. So save yourself a hundred bucks and go somewhere else! Cons: Pricey food, poor ambiance, more

Nothing special 6/8/2008

I went to Little Italy twice while in NYC. Was very happy with my first nights meal and very disappointed with the second nights - at Vincents. I've had traditional Italian cooking from my parernts all my life and have been to Italy and it seems this place felt all you needed was to serve food in Little Italy for it to be 'Italian'. I do not recommend it. Nothing seemed fresh. Bland bread, the lightest olive oil ever and kraft like parmesan. Service was decent but the pricing was the same as the gem I went to the night before. Avoid it if you dont want to feel duped. Pros: Good location more

A legend 2/28/2008

I have been going to this italian restaurant since i was 5 years old! My family and I love it. The linquini and shrimp is truly delicious! You get a choice of the spicy level, I always choose the highest. The fried calamari is also very tasty. Service is great, and prices are moderate. more

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible 7/31/2007

We recently went to the ""famous"" Vincent's as our finale to a spectacular NYC trip...boy were we disappointed! The food was awful, the sauce tasted like it was burned, my veal was actually so over cooked that it curled up at the edges... you could get better garlic bread in a freezer case at the supermarket. Our food arrived so quickly that I was certain that it had been sitting around all day. In some reviews people mentioned that the other cafe's in Little Italy ""don't look authentic""...I can tell you I studied in Italy, then lived in Florence and travel through out the whole of Italy...Vincent's does not resemble anything close to a real authentic Italian restaurant! There is nothing authentic about bad food. My advice...avoid it!!!! Pros: the waiter was nice and funny Cons: everything else more

Great Food/ 1/29/2007

I remember going to Vincent's since I was about 4yr old and have gone ever since! My family went there every time we visited NYC. Friends from all over the world have gone there with and without me and have always told me they got good service and great food. The service maybe abit slow at times due to everything being cooked when you order, but very friendly server and staff. It is very rare, but if you are not happy with something please let them know at that time, they will correct it if need be.\r Altho, I have not been there in the last 2 years, I will always let everyone know this is the place to go, so at least give it a try.\r Let them know you were asked to try their restaurant, it always is good to know they ""do"" have people that have gone there for years in the past and will continue to go in the present. Pros: close to SoHo and China Town, if you like ""older"" back in the day places this is it Cons: not a large place (not really a con for most people) more

why have they been around for so long? 6/15/2006

been living in the neighborhood forever. went there about 15 years ago but don't remember my experience so i decided to try it again. they've been around for so long and there must be a reason for it. i don't know what that reason is. it must be some landmark by now, that's why. i ordered pasta with fried scallops and you can tell that those scallops were just taken out from the freezer. the service wasn't that great either. i guess you need to either look rich or look like someone from the sopranos. won't go there again. more

Great Pasta! 6/1/2006

We walked into Vincents and sat right down after walking past all the other little trendy italian eateries that had a line. This place was recommended to us by a local. Our server was old and a little slow but adorable. His support staff was excellent and right on top of everything. After trying to order ravioli and being told it wasn't ""real"" pasta, I went w/the server's suggestion of the rigatoni! It was awesome. You could taste the authenticity! Pros: prompt seating, traditional more

As authentic as it gets 1/20/2006

Whether its your cup of tea or not, this IS what a typical Italian restaurant was back in the day. No gimmicks, no fancy decor, no guy standing outside with menus shouting at you to come in. Just a simple, family owned place that focuses on one thing and one thing only - great traditional italian food. If you want a trendy spot, dont go here. If you want white glove service, dont go here. Pros: Food Cons: Decor more

Vincent's-The Best!!!!!! 4/4/2005

I came to New York way before 9/11 and I still recommend this place to anyone that visits New York. In fact, even though we live in Seattle, we still order their sauce every year for my aunt because it is the best Italian sauce in the nation!!!! Pros: Service, Food Quality, Celebrity Pics Cons: Absolutely none! more

Disappointed 3/15/2005

I was taken here by a local who swore by this place. I have to admit, it was the only place around that didn't require a reservation or had a huge wait. We came right in and sat down. As much I was excited about an authentic Italian restaurant, I was sadly disappointed. What kind of Italian restaurant doesn't have spaghetti on the menu??? The food was rather bland, nothing I couldn't make at home just as easily. They did not offer Bellinis (a traditional Italian cocktail!). Also the drinks and the portions were small. Between the two of us, our bill was $75! I guess I was expecting too much from a place called ""Vincent's"" in ""Little Italy"". Food was good, not great. Pros: no wait, great drinks Cons: expensive, slow service more

I LOVE THIS PLACE 3/13/2005

for new york city, the food and service here is a steal. the waitstaff is so nice and the food so authentic. try the sweet sauce! Pros: service, sweet staff, sweet sauce more

Good food, great atmosphere 9/24/2003

After waiting for nearly 30 minutes to be seated (there's always a line at Vincents) we were pleased by the prompt service. This is NOT Americanized Italian food, so don't go there expecting Olive Garden-like food. The sauces taste exactly like my Italian-born grandmother used to make, and the food really is quite good, and the prices reasonable. The only thing bad about the restaurant was the line for the bathrooms, so ladies - be prepared to wait for the single stall. The restaurant has been operated by the same family since 1904 and with one taste you'll see why they've been in business so long. Pros: Great food, Prompt Service, Reasonable Price Cons: Long wait for seating, Long bathroom line more

Vincent's is awesome 5/7/2003

Just for the sauce - a choice of sweet and sour, medium or hot, it is worth the trip from New Jersey. The staff is friendly and attentive. At Vincent's you can enjoy a wonderful Italian dinner, in a relaxed atmosphere at a reasonable cost! It's a must try - just once you'll definitely return. Pros: Delicious, Reasonablly $$, Inviting atmosphere Cons: Parking, Limited seating more

tourist trap 9/13/2002

The food is o.k. But, this place is really a tourist trap. Why go here and spend money when you could make a better meal at home for less. There are plenty of authentic italian restaurants which offer better food, ambience, and value in NYC. Vincent's is all about turnover, not about service or quality. Take my word for it, my third visit (tonight) will be my last. Pros: Little Italy Cons: Tourist Trap, Mediocre Food, Inattentive Waiters more

Couldn't be worse 7/15/2002

I brought my friend here for her birthday with 3 others, and guess what? It was so terrible that I felt compelled to write this review. Nobody at our table even ate more then one or two bites! I can't believe I was recommended this place. Please, if you read this, heed the warning, my niece could make better food than this. Its terrible. Plain and simple. Pros: inexpensive, outdoor seating Cons: food, food, food more

The Best Italian Food---EVER! 7/6/2002

I went to this restaurant for the first time last weekend. All of Little Italy was mobbed, and we found this restaurant. With few people inside, I was leery, to say the least. Boy, was I surprised! The food was all homemade, the sauce tasted like it was cooked for 12 hours, and it was all delicious! We had a very nice waiter. There were three of us in our group and we only had entrees and coffee, but the bill only came to $53! I was very pleased. One thing I would have changed--the portion size of my dinner. I had lobster ravioli, and there were only 9 small sized raviolis on the plate. The other two entrees that were ordered were very large portions. Other than that, we had a delicous dinner. I can't wait to go back again! Pros: FOOD, SAUCE, INEXPENSIVE Cons: NONE! more
