Not a place to have a catered event 9/27/2010

Not very impressed with the private party event. The cheese tray looked like I could have gone to Costco and bought a bag of square cheese and put it on a platter. There were only 2 kinds of little square block cheese and carrotts and celery, they called that a veggie tray and they charge $10.00 a person for that! Are you kidding me! The patio is nice. more

Good food but GREAT atmosphere and service 9/5/2010

My wife and I went to Village Tavern last night for our first ""date"" night since our newest addition was born 4 weeks ago. I have been to it numerous times in the past and this experience is fairly typical. more

Great Outdoor Seating, Mediocre Food 4/4/2010

Had dinner on Friday evening at the Village Tavern in Southpark. I have dined here dozens of times over the past couple of years and every time nothing stands out to me. Pros: Outdoor seating, Drink specials Cons: Menu needs revival, No reservations for outdoor seating more

Great food and service 9/27/2009

I took my clients here for a late lunch and was so pleased with the whole experience. I usually have my favorite places to take clients so I don't look bad if the place is bad but I heard great things about this place and would recommend it to anyone. The homemade chips were tasty. Pros: quick service, good menu more

Great food and service... 7/5/2009

This was one of the first places I ate at when I moved here and is by far my favorite. The porkchops are out of this world. Its not uptight but its not low class either. Just a great place to either have a drink or take the family. I am very happy this place was recommended to me. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

OK food, not so good service. 2/15/2009

We recently visited Village Tavern for lunch. This restaurant has been in Charlotte for many years. I ate there right after it opened and remember it being a good experience. This recent visit was not very good. Our waiter spoke so fast we could not understand what he was saying. He seemed very frantic. After studying the menu we ordered appetizers. About 5 minutes later we ordered entrees. Not much time passed and our entrees were delivered to our table but no apps. I told the server we had not received our apps yet. I mentioned it would be nice to have the apps first, she offered to take the entrees away, but not wanting to be difficult I declined. Overall the mixed app plate was very good and a decent sized portion. My friends burger was good. I ordered shrimp scampi and it was very greasy and overloaded with garlic and this is coming from a garlic lover! Pros: Nice ambiance Cons: Service more

Great food as a treat 11/19/2008

I work on the same block as the VT. At about 15$ for lunch it's not my usual fare; it's a treat. Especially during the outdoor months- they have a huge patio for dining. Ive read the other reviews and tend to agree that the service needs improvement. My observation is that they are understaffed. However, the food is great. My favorite dish is the rainbow trout; I've had that about 6 times now. Oh, I forgot to mention- it's fortunate I walk there because the parking lot is always full. Pros: Great food, fancy menu, outdoor seating (in season) Cons: Service, parking more

Humm, oh well, good luck 9/25/2008

We visited this establishment after hearing about it on the LINK radio 107.9. Pros: The meat items were cooked to order and tasty. Cons: Service, seating, courtesy, side items are not prepared well more

Delicious Food & Great Seating but Terrible Service! 5/16/2008

This place well...the food is fabulous, the outdoor seating is one of the best in Charlotte, the service was pretty bad. As the previous person wrote...be prepared to wait for quite some time for a table if there is warm weather. Although while you wait you can order a drink and stand/sit outside enjoying the weather and people watching. The food was exemplary for this type of restaurant. I highly recommend the Bacon Wrapped Scallions or the Blackened Soft Tacos. Both were a great twist on an old favorite. However the service was horrible, the waitress spent alot of time talking to the next table about how ""hot"" their son was. Before we were seated they attempted to make 3 people share a menu because they were running low and then only gave us 2 sets of silverware and 2 napkins for 3 people. One of the busboy/hosts pointed his finger at us and gave an attitude when we asked for more silverware. The bartender was very rude he never once smiled, asked us how we were or anything like that, then while giving him our drink order he walked away in the middle of the order! The waitress never came back after our food was brought to us and we had to flag her down to bring our check. But I gave it 4 stars because everything else was great and I am hoping that they were just having a rough night! more

wait 7/21/2002

Excellent outdoor dining! Thursday, Friday & Saturday - Slam packed. Be prepared to wait a long time! But the wait is worth it if you are with a fun group of people. Hang out, relax and get a drink. Wonderful experience every time. Pros: ambience, food, service Cons: wait, wait, wait more
