new favorite bar 2/17/2008

my friends and i were wandering around the village trying to find a place to have a few drinks. we were basically looking for ANY place better than the first nightmare of a bar we went to. this place was grrrrreeeat! drink specials were awesome. staff was pretty friendly. and the french fries were SO yummy. we had just come from dinner and we thought we werent hungry.... but we decided to order some fries to pick on while drinking a few beers. the basket of fries were done in 2 minutes, so we had to order more!! i loved this place. very laid-back, not too crowded. there was even a comedy show in the basement, which i probably would have sat through if i didnt go there wanting to sit and talk with my friends. i'll probably check it out next time i'm there! Pros: atmosphere, bar food Cons: nothing comes to mind more

Dont let Tracey serve your table. 12/26/2007

Ive been to this place twice and the first time I sat at the bar and enjoyed myself the bartender is friendly and helpful. But the second time I went me and my group were seated at a table the waitress was ok but if you needed something it was hard to catch her attention becuase she was talking to everyone. I had to ask another waitress for a drink and then wait for my waitress to come to our table. But the worst part had to be when our check came we gave the waitress 18% tip and I don't think she deserved it. About two minutes later a friend of hers came to our table and asked was there anthing wrong with the service because that tip should have been 20% it should of have been more. When I spoke with the manager he basically brushed us off and offered a free round but with that kind of behavior permitted I juist wanted to get out of there. I will never go back to that place again. more

awesome bar 8/10/2007

ive been to my fair share of bars...but this one tops the charts. came with some friends last week and watched a sick comedy show, enjoyed the drink specials ($3 beers whaaaaaat) and had some laughs. also - as a side note - the spinach dip & burgers are probably some of the best in the city. i would HIGHLY recommend the lantern. Pros: good entertainment Cons: bathrooms are downstairs more

AMAZING QUALITY BAR FOOD 5/2/2007

The place is pretty spacious. The waitress was very nice, tired but friendly, and gave good recommendations. Martinis are $7 each and there are 7 choices, each named after a deadly sin. The apple martini is good. The angel hair pasta took like half an hour to arrive, but it was worth the wait. Its the best pasta I've ever had, and it was a huge portion ($8)!!! They are renovating their menu so ask the waitress about that, they don't have a bunch of items featured on the menu but might if you go towards the summer. Came on a friday early, so can't rate the live music or comedy as there was none but I will def be going back there. The most unpretentious atmosphere in the west village. I deff recommend it. They also have a Sunday brunch special which is like $9 and that includes a meal (french toast or eggs, etc) and a free mimosa or bloody mary. Pros: awesome food, good drinks, nice atmosphere Cons: slow service for food, drinks came fast more

Great Comedians 3/26/2007

I've been to a lot of comedy clubs in NYC but this one is the best as far as the comedians' talent. Not only are they funny but a few of the guys are pretty hot. But I would suggest eating before you go because the food is not so good. But they make up for it with their draft beer selection. Pros: talented comedians, draft beers Cons: appetizers more

fun 11/2/2006

we had fun time haloween. It was very crowded with party people on costumes. We had funner time. good palace. bye. more

When is Dj Stacy Stylez at The Village Lantern??? Each time I go its the same dude. I'm a Big Stacy Stylez fan and can never find her. Maybe these are old posts but I want to see her spin. Saw her at other places and always have a kickin time. Pros: Where is DJ Stacy Stylez Cons: Where is DJ Stacy Stylez more

THE BEST DJ EVER 8/12/2006

My friends and I just came from The village Lantern and Ironically it was the same female DJ we saw the night before at another club. DJ Stacy Stylez IS THE BEST DJ IN THE WORLD. She is so good that we got there at 10pm and didn't leave until 4am. She played instruments while she spun and jumped up and down with all of us. I have never seen or heard a better DJ. Her music was so great, mixes of 80's, hip hop and older type of hip hop. We all loved every thing she did. Anytime she is there we'll go back. Pros: DJ Stacy Stylez more

The slowest service ever 7/14/2006

The place by itself is average, at best. However, the slow service at the bar makes this spot miserable. The wait was about 20 minutes to get a drink every single time I went to the bar. Closing my tab at the end of the night took even more time. Also, some girl was fighting with the bartender at one point because apparently the bartender mixed up the credit cards by the register and gave her card to someone else, and the manager she spoke to didn't seem very sorry about it. NOT RECOMMENDED. Pros: lots of people Cons: painfully slow service, possibly incompetent bartenders more

Rude Bouncers, Friendly Bartenders 1/2/2006

Went here on a Saturday Night with my girlfriend in December '05. The place gets pretty crowded and they had a DJ playing with people dancing. The upstairs is pretty small, but there is a downstairs lounge to hang out if that gets to be the case Overall, the staff is friendly especially the bartenders, however the bouncer that they had working the door was one of the rudest that I've ever seen in NYC bars. We saw him curse people out and push people for no reason while we were outside smoking. Luckily, we were spared his wrath. If you can get past him, then you should have a good time. Pros: Bartenders Cons: Bouncers more

Like Home 8/30/2005

The Village Lantern has become my ""go to"" bar around my apartment. Over the years it has gone through some changes in look, but it is always reliable in the most important areas: inexpensive, cold, STRONG drinks! The staff is great (kudos to the owners) and the regular crowd is friendly and funny. Definitely my favorite place to watch a game in the Village. The food is surprisingly tasty as well. Pros: Great Food, strong drinks, reasonable prices Cons: Bobby Matthews more

Not what is used to be 4/7/2005

I remember this place 2 years ago, with Joe, the former manager. This place has gone downhill FAST. Avoid it. I would try a new place. more

Chillin' Lounge 9/19/2003

Went to a birthday party there last week in their private lounge downstairs, didn't even know they had one!Great staff. DJ was off the chain followed by an awesome band-2 environments in the same space-what more could you ask for! Pros: DJ, band, Private Room Cons: Crowded more

laugh your a***off! 9/14/2003

comedy in the louge at Village Lantern is better than anything seen at Caroline's.totally unknown talent(at this time) , worth the trip downtown--HILARIOUS!! Drink specials make the evening more of a winner. Pros: no cover charge, cool atmosphere, sexy staff Cons: a/c too cold more

BELLA 8/13/2003

I was invited to a party there on Tuesday night hosted by Vinny Vella. The food was supreme and the staff was most welcoming. There was a Sinatra impersonator, jazz singer, and several cast members of the Soprano's. It was like a scene out of GOODFELLA's. Definetly a fun night out and something different to do with friends. Pros: food, service, entertainment Cons: crowded more

SUNDAY NIGHTs 7/13/2003

This is the best place to stop into after a weekend at the beach...GREAT COMEDY SHOW Sunday night followed by an incredible 2 man band....completely relaxing place to sit, have a beer, & remenisce about the weekend...i'm making this place a Sunday night stop...GREAT STAFF...see you tonight... Pros: staff, price, view more

Just Great 5/21/2003

I was directed to this place by a friend of mine and I met the onwer, her mother and father and bartender Joe. They are really nice, friendly cool people. And besides that they had some great wine and food. I let them order for me and all I can say is...YUM! Pros: Atmosphere, Service, Price Cons: Not enough TV's, No Jukebox more

Chillin' 5/13/2003

I stopped by this place by accident Sunday night after having dinner in the neighborhood- They had the coolest trio playing all lounged out on the couches. Service was a ""10""- but their martini glasses seemed a bit small- The singer was such a trip- totally chilled & laid back vibe. I hope their there again next week... Pros: music, service, ambience more
